Disco 3 Detatchable Tow Hook
I am aware that LR has issued a “prior to sale notice£ for 07/08 Discos and Rangies identifying a fault on this item but the specific fault is unknown. However my colleague and I both own 05 Discos and are experiencing movement of the Tow Ball within the vehicle housing. On closer inspection the Green release lever rotates slightly causing the locking pin/bar to retract from its housing. As a result the Tow hook rattles freely in the housing when towing.
We would welcome advice on cures and notification of similar problems as LR claim that this is unique to our vehicles and are unable to assist.
We would also welcome an email contact address within LR Customer Services if there is one!1st TDV6 HSE ex Demo - nothing but problems - complete wiring loom failure - chaffed wires to front fogs - Parcel cover failed(!!) – Handbrake problems - Intermittent problems with parking sensors - Lack of full closure locking meant sunroof frequently left open.
LandRover Assist in France was the best I have ever had – BRILLIANT – except why do you need it for a car that's less than 18 months old???

In my experience the towball appreciates being shoved into the housing quite smartly - difficult to do with the weight/height/angle, perhaps a tap upwards with a light hammer will let it seat better (but hopefully still being removable)???Cheers

Thanks for the tip it could be worth trying. Our concern is that we have both used our Tow Hooks for three(3) years without this problem arising and feel that there is a more fundamental problem than just the lack of physical force – when towing a twin axel trailer of caravan one would find it very difficult to then apply physical upward force with or without the aid of a Thor Copper/Hide hammer1st TDV6 HSE ex Demo - nothing but problems - complete wiring loom failure - chaffed wires to front fogs - Parcel cover failed(!!) – Handbrake problems - Intermittent problems with parking sensors - Lack of full closure locking meant sunroof frequently left open.

The concern over the towbars has been resolved by Land Rover without any action being required
What i can gather from the bulletin release was they had a small batch which they were checking quality wise and after testing have found that there was no issues...they just thought it be best to hold any towbars from being issued..
This ONLY afftected towbars supplied as factory options...NOT accessory supply as first thought.
If you do have an issue with your towbar then i would suggest taking it up with your dealer
Don't forget...if you purchased your towbar from and to be fitted by the dealer at pdi or within one month of hand over the item is covered by the 3 year vehicle warranty...TLO has left the building.......

I have the same problem as originally articulated by the original poster. I also have an 05 disco3 and tow a large twin axle caravan and when towing the towball becomes very loose which can be eased by lowering the jockey wheel on the caravan and pushing the ball back into it's housing, obviously when stationary! Unfortunately the post appears to have been hijacked rather than answered!!
My dealer has been unable to provide any answer to date. Have tried to contact LR by phone for advice but can never get an answer.
Does the large one have an email address I can use to contact LR customer service.
