Help with engine system fault/ EGR/ INTAKE/ Turbo?!?

Bought a D3 just before Christmas and it’s going into limp mode. Had one garage tell me its EGR delete hadn’t been done properly or remapped. He also said that a smoke test showed issues with intake manifold leak (needs replacing but he wanted to charge me £3.5k).

So I had a remap done and booked in with a recommended LR specialist for the manifold. When he got it in, he found turbo codes and smoke test showed leaking from the EGR blanks.

Today, I’ve been doing a fix on the bodged EGR blanking today. The blanks seemed to have been leaking (soot on them) so I’ve changed them and taken out the butterfly from the EGR intake which had been left in and seemingly active. Took it for a test drive and the acceleration was much more responsive and less shuddering. However, I still got the dreaded “engine system fault” message when going to high speed (80+ with foot down). Don’t think it went into proper limp mode however.

Got back and checked the engine bay. Noticed a lot of moisture at the back around the pictured valve (looks like a bike pump valve) but no signs of leaking from the blanks.

Can anyone tell me what the valve is at the back? Should it be connected to something or have a cap on?

What could the moisture be at the back of the engine bay be (below the valve)?

Thoughts on wether the egr and intake issue could have been causing turbo codes?

What would be your next steps?

Sorry for the long story and lots of questions.

Are your EGR electrical connectors plugged in?

Hi

Have enclosed ur pictures for u

That valve at the back is where u take fuel pressures which comes from ur low pressure fuel pump , indeed should have a tyre type cap on it, same size as ur tyre valves

Must confess I’m wondering if that’s diesel leaking out of that valve , including to see if any nuts are loose, ?? apart from fitting a new plastic cap personally would also be tempted to fit a new Schrader valve insert , u can get a kit off Amazon/ eBay etc, will find the link for u

Hope u also don’t mind me asking but are u aware that the mot test centres might not be happy the egr pipes have been removed , when I done mine I left the egr pipes on and then blanked them on the engine block , so doing it like that u couldn’t see that they been blanked

Would u mind filling in it profile plse as can’t see what year ur disco is , many thks , importantly if it’s after 2007 as an EGR delete software is required to stop the engine light coming on

Can u remember what the codes were plse

Hopefully that helps in a small way

Wonder if something like this would be suitable, apologises as never had to replace mine , hopefully someone else will be able to confirm if a standard tyre valve insert will be ok

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Heyu-Lotus-Valve-...2&th=1

Also found some pics of when I done my egrs pipe delete , plus removed the butterfly valve from the throttle body, reinserted the pin , removed and cleaned the Map sensor

Other picture regarding egr blanking , where it has red circles shows where the blanks go on the engine block then pipes on top

The one on the right of the engine is definitely out. Should anything else be out?

They sold me a lemon… I really should just scrap it… but I just can’t bring myself to do it.

It really does help. Thanks. I’ve ordered the Amazon kit you suggested and I’ll get the at on. I wasn’t aware of the MOT issue, however I didn’t have much choice as the blanks had been out in before purchase and, as I was starting with limited knowledge, I had no idea.

I’ve filled in my profile now but it’s a 2009 2.7TDV6. Should have included that, so apologies.

I’ve not got the codes for the turbo. I’ll hook up my basic diagnostic in the morning and have a look at what I can see, last time, all I saw was the P0405 EGR code. When I took it to the garage, they said it was full of codes so I might have to invest in a laptop based reader for more info. Might get in touch with the garage and ask for the codes on Monday.
