Missing cover plate
Hi all
Been having a stiff auto gearbox lever on Discovery 4, (2010) ordered the parts, got underneath to find the cover plate that should be there wasn’t, replaced parts and all good, question, is this plate common to the disco 3 and 4, there doesn’t seem to be many D4s being scrapped close to me and wondered if D3 was the same part, thanks.Discovery 3 SE gone but not forgotten.

They are different. I have a D3 on which it is missing and I had looked at fitting a D4 one. However, I came to the conclusion that they were not essential.

Thanks Zig
Thought so, Given the weather up here I think it is needed as my pivot for the gearbox was totally seized, probably by salt, due to the cover being missing, will try and find one, unless someone on here is scrapping a D4 2010 🤞Discovery 3 SE gone but not forgotten.

Hi
Does this help u regarding the transmission cover plate part numbers
There is one on eBay but assume it’s vin related , also see them quoting that one hole is larger than the others, so imagine a larger washer might resolve the issue

Hi gstuart
Thanks for the info, I was of the opinion that the missing plate is a plate and not a heat shield, I have access to another D4 (2010) so Im going to take a look underneath and report back, again thanks.Discovery 3 SE gone but not forgotten.

davecars, the D3 ‘plate’ (which is a type of plastic), does have a heat shield on part of it, where the catalytic converter is above it, I assume the D4 has similar.D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.

Morning all
Had a look under the other D4 and guess what, no cover plate see photo, you can see the brackets where you bolt on to ?
I’m thinking it might be plastic
