Had my spare key stolen and now feel very uneasy only having one. Key was stolen from another car and Land Rover nowhere near so I don't think there's a chance of it being used.
However I would like a new key. I've read on the forum I can program it myself through GAP tool but need a virgin key. Can't seem to find them easily....
Anyone got any idea of the price from LR and the process?
Thanks gentlemen, much appreciated.

Buy Chinese copy from eBay. About 180 Skr. The blade will need cutting.
When you program for it you will also need to reprogram for your existing key and your stolen key will no longer unlock the car.
To be accurate, the car is reprogrammed to match the keys not the keys to match the car.
Process easy and quick. Involves putting each, and every key, in the ignition and going through a cycle of ignition on/off for each.
All keys need to be reprogrammed for at the same time.

Not any but many. Cost here about 12Skr.
I understand that there are also online services that work from a photo of your key, but do not have experience of these.

It might be a good idea to reprogram your car for your existing key as soon as possible. The reason being that anyone with your stolen key can identify your car simply by driving past and pressing unlock. The key can be easily identified as for a Discovery 3 making the search for your vehicle much easier.
Reprogramming the car for a single key will prevent this identification although the stolen key will still be able to open the emergency mechanical lock and possibly start the car.

Thanks! I've also emailed a dealer in the UK to get a price from them but will have another look on ebay and talk to some key cutting places in Stockholm to get an idea.
Yeah, I feel the same, I think it's less likely than it would be if I lived in a house and the car was there. I live right in the city centre, the key was stolen from another car and the Land Rover isn't kept or ever in the city... so it would have to be a very unfortunate set of circumstances for them to find the car and have the key.... still... I hear you!
Just a total pain and I can imagine it becomes an even bigger pain if I lose the only key I have....

Used these guys a couple of times and they have been excellent, perfect copies from photos and then enabled the fob (bought off fleabay) with an IID... simples I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

Ah thanks guys! Very much appreciated!
So....
I just buy a key (not the case but the ones on fleabay stating stuff like 433mhz key for Land Rover), then a blade which can be cut online, and then I can program that to the car with the IID tool...
Any idea where I get the key number from if I don't have the bag? The online service Keys In The Post seems to require one...

If you take the only key you have together with your new key to a locksmith he can copy from your only key while you wait, that's what I did, all done in minutes! I used a kiosk key/shoe repairer in a shopping centre.

Dealer cost £150 2 years ago so more now I suppose. I also bought a Chinese blank key and programmed it using my IId tool. I had to take the blank key to a locksmith to get it cut and I'm sure it had o be one with diamond cutting tool. Anyhow,
It all cost little over £20 at the time and very easy with the IId tool.

Hi,
just done the same as only 1 key when I bought the D3
bought a 433 body with internals and a blank key, (£14) search this one.
3 button full remote key fob 433mhz for land rover discovery 3 range rover sport. sold by greatwill2019
tried a few key cutting places but they would not or could not cut my key only 1 they provided for £££, or their clamp was not fine enough to hold they D3 key to copy the cut, then mobile cutter in the market cut it for me, no charge
use the IId straight forward and now have 2 working remotes and keys.
and every day is a school day, never knew the reason the blade is cut on both side is so you can insert the blade either way to start the car, it only Needs to be cut on one side but then you can only put it in 1 way, it never crossed my mind before

Not sure what you mean by “the bag” ? All I did was send two good photos of the key and they sent a new message e back, it may be that they need a copy of your ownership document but it’s been a while since I’ve had any of mine done… I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van...
