the more I read on forums regarding the wiring of it the more confused it is making me.
few questions....
1. Is it really that complicated or am I just overthinking it?
2. any recommendations for kill switch on the positive line from the battery? (I have heard too many run away winch stories so want to put one in)
Cheers

We just did one of these on a D3 using the Terrafirma discrete winch mount.
As the name suggests, the mount fits nicely behind the bumper and you can have the fairlead either slightly set back in the bumper or standing proud. As with any winch mount, the bumper needs to be cut to fit around the mount, but only on the bottom and looks quite neat, especially when used in conjunction with a proper front sump guard that comes halfway up the bumper.
The only issue is mounting the solenoid pack. The brackets supplied don't fit anywhere that will hold the pack without fouling the bumper. It took a bit of faffing, but worked out the best place to mount it was behind the front valve block using a modified bracket. The only downside is that you can't reach the on/off power button, but that's not a problem because you just leave it switched on and use the isolator to switch on/off.
You can of course not use the supplied cables (which are a bit short) and make up some longer ones that will allow you mount the pack either in front of the air filter box or in the box in front of the brake servo (unless you're having a secondary battery system).

Thank you that is very useful!
based on where you have put your control pack, are you intending on only using the wireless remote to operate the winch? the wired remote would normally plug into that control pack wouldn't it? but that isn't going to be possible if hidden behind that section of bumper? so do you intend on fitting an isolation switch onto the live line then too? what size cable did you purchase if the ones supplied were too short?
Don't suppose you did a video for fitting the mount too did you?
Thinking further ahead... where are you planning to fit your number plate?

You can get a winch controller extension lead and mount that in the engine bay. The number plate was mounted on a metal plate then we fixed 2 pegs with pins to the bumper either side of the fairlead, so the number plate covers it when not in use. Just pull the pins and the number plate comes away.
All winches should have an isolation switch and meagfuse.Joe

Hi,
The mount is very easy to install, just a bit time consuming.

I actually mounted the solenoid behind the grill on a bracket I made, no pictures sorry. I have the isolator on the LHS between the FBH and the headlight. I have a wireless controller and also an isolator and control switch in the cab.

Thank you for those pics!
For the winch mount does the bumper take much modification or is it just the hole for the fair lead?
Also really smart set up pwheeldon
