Crankshaft Bolt Size M14 or M16

Hi Everyone
I'm currently changing the Main bearings on my 2006 tdv6.

I found a M16 crank Bolt in the Front at the Timing wheel.

Is this possible?
I thought that the M16 Bolt was Post 2009.?!?

Is IT possible that a preowner of the Car has already changed the crankshaft? Would a New crankshaft fit in the older engine?

This would explain Many small issues which i found during my work on the engine.

But i m not Sure If IT IS possible..

Now i have to wait for the M16 Bolt to proceed with reasembling

Sorry for my typos......i have Just my Mobile Phone with a autocorrection to German. Rolling Eyes

Yes it should be an M14 and M16 is as you say for the later engine. Perhaps it had a new crank or even a new engine before you bought it. Very Happy

I've not seen that crank bolt on a D3 prior to MY09> but someone else may offer further insight.

Shocked

Ok.......interresting.

This means I have to further investigate the main bearings before I really reassemble the engine.

I changed the old one against new ones in original size. But if the crankshaft has been changed, something big must have happend with this engine in the past.

Any idea how I could check the old bearings if they are in original size or oversized?

A couple of months ago I found some issues at the camshaft bearings.....my guess is that this issues came from the same "incident". So the heads and cams seem to be the original ones.
I already changed the injectors last year, and I used the "older" style ones for the original 2006MY. I think 2009 was there as well some kind of change.

How can I identify if the block is the original one? I could ony find the number on lefthand intake manifold, but no stamped engine number.

thanks
Roland

If undersize, it is stamped on them..

Never seen undersize without size markings on them..

Yeah as above they should be stamped. The engine number is a different issue though, typically LR decided to stamp the block in the most difficult place they could possibly find. Rolling Eyes

Behind cyl's no 6 and no 3 Big Cry Although it is also stamped on the intake manifolds but the block location makes it very difficult to compare.

as said earlyer, If undersize, it is stamped on them..

BUT standard are NOT always stamped with STD..

A B C markings though CAN (not always ARE) be size code's within a certain size

so
STD can have 3 subsizes
1e undersize can have 3 subsizes
etc..

Someone on here has done a rebuild using Ford bearings and included colour info if I recall. Have a search.

Thanks

it seems that my bearings are federal mogul according to this thread
And they are tapped.

But the numbers are different to the list in this thread. Rolling Eyes and the pictures in this thread

and I cant find anything online about productnumbers of federal mogul

I will measure the material thickness of an old bearing and an new bearing...lets see, maybe this helps

Yes yours look to be original Ford FM shells and I'm assuming they're std. Breg90 (Adrian) has done exhaustive work in determining the suitability of the Ford F150 (3.0 ltr) bearings, and has concluded after very diligent investigations that they will fit the 2.7 TDV6! (albeit with minor machining for the anti rotation tabs)

The questions for you now are (1) what crank do you have fitted? It would appear from the M16 pulley bolt it's a later 09> 2.7 TDV6 crank? (or perhaps a newer short engine?) And, (2) if you wanted to go Breg90's F150 route would those bearings also fit your crank?

Might be worth sending Adrian a PM and get his informed opinion as he may not have seen this post already.

The real question is: which bearings fit into my special "frankenstein" engine Laughing

I already have new FAI bearings here. I just stopped installing them when I found the mismatching front bolts.

And the old installed bearing do not fit the original OEM numbers

original:

OEM 5Q6331AB installed: 9Q6331CA
OEM 5Q6337AA installed: 9Q6337BA
OEM 5Q6338AB installed: 9Q6338BA
OEM 8Q6331AA installed: 9Q6A339CA

I don't find dimensions for the original OEM bearings and not for the installed.
But King has dimensions for there STD sized bearings.
King STD wallthickness 2,504mm
King +0,5mm wallthickness 2,756mm

My measurement showed an average of
2,502mm wallthickness at the installed bearings
and 2,495mm wallthickness at the new FAI bearings

this means 0,007mm more gap with the FAI bearings.

Not perfect....but I guess as good as it gets.
