2.7tdv6 Earthing issue ?
So took a look at a friends RRS 2007 2.7tdv6 today. He has the Christmas tree of lights for HDC, Transmission, no air suspension no special programs etc...
He had an issue starting yesterday just a click from the starter, RAC Came out and fixed a second ground cable from the battery neg directly to the engine block and then starts fine, however still got all the transmission warnings etc.
I took a look at the ground strap in the RHS wheel arch and it was tight and looked fine (no corrosion) could not really see the back of the alternator and did not have time to delve much further however on starting the battery voltage was showing 14.4 so clearly the alternator is charging.
Any suggestions, seems to me like it must be an earthing issue but the battery clamp is fine and cable to the wing is secure.

Straps can look fine but are often corroded internally. If you can bend it and white powder is seen to fall from it then it's kaput. Have a look at the strap on the transfer case as well.
If you disconnect the straps individually and use a jump lead in their place, you should be able to identify which one is shot.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Out of interest where is the main strap to the engine? Mines been replaced with a connection to the top of the engine, but I'd like to repair it properly.Discovery 4 GS 2009 Auto Stornoway Grey

At the back of O/S/F wheel arch bolted to the body. The other one is bolted to the transfer box and then to the centre body crossmember.
The Battery earth is down behind the battery again bolted to the body.
