Corrolan/ Lanoguard

New to the the forum and Land Rover ownership! Have definitely thrown myself in at the deep end of deciding to buy my first Land Rover and take up fit car maintenance at the same time! As the the topic suggests I’ve been looking at underseals and am interested to see if anyone has had and experience with these lanolin based products?

TIA

Toby

By some freak coincidence I was just reading about Lanoguard and came on here to see what others might have said about it. The last time my D3 went in for a service the mechanic said he could seal the rusty bits on mine with some kind of woolly lanolin product for about £400. After taking off the towing plug cover at the back and seeing how much the steel has blown with rust I might go for it.

Different product, but similar theme, I insulated the loft last year with sheeps wool rolls. It's brilliant, easy to use and doesn't itch when you touch it. The only problem is the lanolin smell in the loft! Everything kept in the loft smells of sheep! I wonder if Lanolin underseal would smell sheepy on a hot day?! Laughing

I live in Norway, our main roads are salted 8 months a year to remove ice. Needless to say our cars rust.... Lanolin treatments are highly regarded over here, to prevent rust. I had my car treated last year at a specialist, they use a product called Fluidfilm - https://www.fluid-film.com/automotive-applications/

In Norway this is considered the best anti-rust treatment for older cars, and many claim it will stop rust indefinitely.

My car smelled strongly of sheep for several weeks after treatment, and if the car sit in the sun it still has a faint odour now, 6 months later. I would certainly do any work underneath, like suspension work, before treatment. The thick, oily fluid is messy.

Regards
Tron

+1 for Fluidfilm. Had mine done this autumn, it still has a noticeable odour on wet days. But the stuff is supposed to do miracles.
You can also buy your own kit, but it's best to apply it in someone elses garage Whistle
