Engine in limp home mode when cold temperatures
Dear all,
On winter mornings, when the car has slept outside, I always get the engine going into limp home mode after the first few hundred meters. I then just stop the engine, remove the key and restart again for the vehicle to behave normally.
Plugging the IID tool doesn't reveal any error code after the restart procedure.
As soon as the external temperature rises above 10°C, nothing happens.
And when the engine is warm, the defect doesn't show up anymore.
What could be the culprit here? EGR maybe?
Anybody having the same and found out what the problem was?

How old is the battery ?

Symptoms of a low charged battery not necessarily volts but amps. Put a battery charger on overnight and see if it still does it.It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Let me get this right.
The car starts fine, no hesitations. No signs of battery struggling.
I drive the car normally, then suddenly, after a few hundred meters, it goes in limp home mode.
I stop the car. Take the key out, restart the car and it works fine afterwards.
Is this really related to a dead battery?

No, if it was the battery you would have the symptoms immediately after first start up. It can when others can't,

Could it be a bad earth?
Mine went into "restricted performance" twice then when I went to the petrol station and filled up, it wouldn't start at all but the lights came on the dash. That was a bad earth. The one behind the front drivers side wheel arch. Replaced with a £6.99 earth cable and all working fine. Could it be the same cause?
I guess when it started, the cable was touching so it all worked. Then after a few hundred yards, it vibrated so it didn't touch and then went into limp mode. I stopped, started the engine again and it drove fine. Probably down to luck until the earth cable finally gave up.
