Creaking Rear Suspension

Hi folks,

My wife's disco 3 has horrendous creaking from the rear suspension, especially from the drivers side. I'm not sure if it's common or not, but was wondering if anyone knows if it's usually from the arms, the hub bushes or the struts? Haven't had a chance to jack it yet, might be a week or 2 before I get a chance.

Thanks

I doubt it will be the strut, but could be any of the rest.

On mine, it turned out to be the top rose joint from the hub carrier to the upper wishbone.

Sounds like the hub bushes - easy job if you have the tools to push out and press in the bushes - did both upper and lower, both sides and took something like 2.5 hours.

Thanks, I'll order up some hub bushes and new hardware and take it from there.

Had a queak on mine thought it was from rear but and it turned out to be the front upper bush. Confused
They were having trouble aligning the front right and back left wheels. Turned out the rear left bushes were all pretty much shot so replacing all but front lower arm bushes as they were only recently done.

I had a horrible squeak in my right rear suspension too, turned out that there is a bottom ball joint in the hub which is common to rust and sieze.
My bet it's that one.
Not that expensive to replace although you will need a wheel alignment as well.

That's exactly what happened to me. I suspect they did not torque up the bolts on upper arms with the vehicle at ride height.

Did you go back to the folks that did the rear upper and challenge them ?

I see this issue at work, cant hear the noise as they are trucks, but you can see the bush being torn to bits by the thin bits of rubber being pushed out the sides of the bush, all because the mech has tightened them with the axle suspended.

Thanks for the reply.

According to the garage that replaced my rear upper control arms (includes the inner bushings) the groaning is from the upper and lower control ball bushings, which I believe are the highlighted ones (gallery photo). Odd that upper and lower control ball joints/bushings would fail on one side shortly after upper control arm replacement and then on the other side too only a few weeks later. Thoughts ?
