For those that have changed out front and rear arms
My D3 is 10 years old and the ride from the rear could be described as "jumbled". In the last couple of years I've replaced the front and rear arb bushes, also changed out the front lower control arms. I won't be replacing my D3 until the D5 comes out (2 years +) so as a stop gap I am thinking of putting new arms in all around. For those that have replaced the front & rear upper & lower arms is the ride improvement dramatic / worth the money?16 D4 Landmark

In my experience the arms need replacing when the bushes are shot and then you tend to hear clunks or in the case of the rear uppers you get irregular wear on the rear tyre shoulders. I would check the panhard rods at the rear, they break leading to a very unstable rear and also consider replacing the damper units. What's the mileage on your Disco?-------------------------------------------------------------------

Only 50,000 miles but the roads here are dreadful - potholes every 50 feet.16 D4 Landmark

I did mine and am happy with the improvement and peace of mind.
Replace the knuckles as well if you are doing it. I was horrifies at the amount of movement in the reat suspension on mine.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

It depends how badly they are worn, or if indeed they do need changing, you don't say, if they are badly worn it will make a tremendous improvement, if you changing them as preventative maintenance it will make little difference. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Ive just had the front and rear ARB bushes done, front and rear upper wishbones, front upper ball joints and a full alignment.
MUCH better!! however I still think I need new dampers.

Do you mind me asking how much all that came to, was it through a dealer / indie / other?
Reckon I am nearing that situation myself. . .

A year ago i had all of this fitted..
Totally transformed the ride. Even Disco Mikey thinks it rides better than his own car.
Worth every penny doing it all. I didn't do a few of the hub bushes at the time but they are now creaking so will get them done.
That picture cost me just under £700 to make, that was with a decent discount on most of the parts.

This has.
2x track rod ends.
4x arb bushes
2x front upper arms
2x rear RRS upper arms
2x rear lower arms.
All bolts to go with them. I did take a few of the bolts back as the originals came out on some, others were less keen to come out so Mikey "Persuaded" them to come out...

I also had this lot fitted at the same time..

I had a wheel bearing replaced at the same time, also had some inner track rod ends replaced (which I supplied).
I had planned on doing the bushes myself, but decided I just needed it done so got a garage to do it. £1450... probably about £2-300 more than I had hoped but hey hoe.
I think I may try and do the shocks/airstruts myself however in the new year as its ~200 a corner.

I think my LR3 (2008) needs the same procedure to be done. She's making an annoying 'clanking' sound everytime the front wheels hit the smallest pot hole.
Is it possible that only the bushings of the control arms need replacement or is it recommended to change the whole arm in this case?
Are there any other things to do after replacing those arms (like realigning the wheels, or adjustment of the suspension -software?) and can I do this myself also?
What about the tierods, should they be replaced also in this case?
I am asking because of a video I've seen on Youtube ( )
Thanks for commenting!
Cheers, Andy

After any suspension work on my Discovery I'd get it 4 wheeled aligned. 2 wheel alignment is a waste of time in my opinion.

I've had the full overhaul done with a mix of oem and genuine parts all fitted up by Discomikey
It's been superb well worth doing , but mine were totally shot in a lot of areas so much so that it felt like a wobbly jelly car! The drive home after picking it up was so satisfying! Even on a windy day it was firm and tight and was just night and day. If yours feels iffy i wouldn't hesitate blessed are the losers ,for they determine the winners
