Today's Job - Glow Plugs.
Had a crack at the glow plugs today... I must have been one of the lucky ones as all mine were easy to get out barely more that hand tight.
Its actually not a bad job and you can do the first 3 just by removing the Throttle Body and Oil filter. It gets a bit more involved after this with the Oil Seperator in the way but I managed to do 4 & 5 by just disconnecting the items listed in the workshop manual and then lifting it up and moving it to one side to gain access. So I did not have to actually remove it.
No 6. was a bit more of a challenge. but again with the oil seperator moved forwards I managed to get on the glow plug with a ratchet spanner.
Knowing that the other 5 had all been easy to undo I just used a lever to gently pry the spanner and it loosened off no with no issues.
As for getting it out the rest of the way with the HP fuel pump in the way (and the new one in) then I am not sure I should say how I managed that without my flame suit on

Well done that man, go and buy a lottery ticket
Seriously though, this is a job I keep thinking about and can’t decide whether or not to risk it.

Hi Kev, I believe that LR revised the original torque spec for glow plugs down to 10nm around 2007-2008 I think this is why mine were easier. My advice would be try the one at the front first as you can get to it just by removing the Throttle body which takes minutes to do. If it’s easy then chances are the rest might be too. I did mine up so that they were just nipped up. They really don’t need to be tight.

Could they have been changed before?- maybe that’s why they came out so easy!
So it beggars the question is it worth checking/removing them and copper greasing the threads every 3 years or so?It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I dont think so they look like the original ones and the vehicle has only done 83k. I think its the age thing, (Euro 3 v Euro 4)... Mine is a Euro 4.
