Transmission fault / HDC fault / Parking brake fault etc

Hi all,

I got a phone call from my girlfriend on Sun at 4pm saying my beloved Disco 3 had died on her. Transmission fault / HDC fault / Parking brake fault / Suspension fault / Parking brake fault / Engine management fault all came on and the car lost all power.

She pulled off the motorway and I gave her the details for our insurance breakdown recovery to give them a call. They initially said 60 - 90 minutes, but by way of text message they said the earliest they could get to her was 8pm! 4 hour wait for a recovery truck!!!

I drove to meet her so she could take another car home and I'd wait, but after firing it up I had no warnings, took it for a quick drive.... fine.... so I decided to try and drive it back 21 miles away from home. Had to be quicker than waiting 4 hours, no doubt to be let down again by them!

Everything seemed fine when I joined the motorway, 70mph and no faults.... then all the messages came back at once and the car dropped to it's stops. Slowly decreased speed no matter how much throttle I was using, had to pull off the motorway again and nurse it to a safe area with the hazards going. I switched it off and back on again and that cleared the faults? So I decided to try again but keeping off the motorway. It made it home fine below 40mph, like there was nothing wrong with it?

A friend met me yesterday with his Autolink AL619 diag tool, no faults found so we decided to take it for a drive and wait for the faults to appear. Motorways, hills, hard accel, hard braking, all suspension modes... we couldn't reproduce the fault! Battery 12.6V, drops to 10v on start, then increases as the alternator charges.

I've got a 400 mile round trip to do in it mid Sept, and I'm not keen on taking it that far whilst it's unreliable, and especially if recovery trucks are 4 hours away!

Has anyone come across this before? And is it an easy fix or a big job?!

Thanks!

Report back with how you did.

I have had the same issue for months. Still driveable but I still haven't nailed it.

Check your Alternator output voltages before fitting the new battery your fault could also be caused by a failing alternator. When the alternator fails on these vehicles it can develop a dead short and destroy your new battery.
