Intermittent failure of instrument cluster - Battery?

Hi guys,

I've been having an intermittent failure of the instrument cluster for a while, rare in the winter but increasingly so in the spring, to the point where it would go on/off several times in a 20minute drive.

Living and working in a small NW Highland area meant virtually all my driving was short distance, once or twice a day.

However, a couple of months ago, I began picking up farm equipment for a friend from various parts of the country, necessitating long runs in daylight, several hours duration, once or twice a week for several weeks.

Pretty quickly I noticed the dash had stopped going 'dead' as often then not at all. And not for a couple of weeks now.

This raises the question in my mind, the only thing that's changed is the duration of the drives and the amount of charge being put into the battery. Prior to this, the Disco doesn't seem to have suffered any of the other problems I'd read about stemming from a low battery charge.

It may not be linked and it may just be additional 'flexing' of the PCBs/electrics in the dash due to the terrain and duration of drives but I thought I'd put this up incase it is linked and may be of help to others.

Any electrical 'boffins' have an opinion or am I just temporarily lucky!?

Cheers
Rob

I think it will be down to cracked solder joints on the back if the pcb.

Almost certainly due to the all-too-frequent issue with crappy solder on the PCB inside the instrument cluster. Easily repairable - www.totaltronics.com - Patryk will do a great job for you.
