Replace "mother" with "parent who has given birth" ?

Refer to them as a grandmother or grandfather, unless you know that they don’t wish to be referred to as such as they identify themselves differently.

I'm with LT - refer to someone as they want to be referred. I don't agree with Stonewall requiring organisations to make blanket changes, but if an employee / customer wants to be referred to as "mother" or "person who gave birth", then respect that wish.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

What is of far greater concern is how an organisation that is basically a lobby group got into such an influential position in so many institutions.

I must confess to being fairly confused on these issues.
What is acceptable or correct seems to vary rather quickly, and also geographically.
A couple of years ago in Atlanta GA. I was upbraided for asking for a white coffee - I should have asked for coffee with milk; I was told at that time that should I want black coffee I should ask for coffee without milk.
I see white & black coffee advertised, and spoken about here in the UK apparently without causing offence.

Reality is that only a very tiny minority would be offended by such a description of coffee. Just as very would not mind you asking to buy a black car. As it’s referring to the colour of an object, substance etc. not a person.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE
