Cheap Fog Lights?

Hi.

has anyone bough replacement / aftermarket fog lights. There seem to be the usual eBay range between £40 ish and £80 ish that look exactly the same.

I bought a pair off ebay similar a couple of years back.

Obviously not the same quality as OEM but they are ok. However, I found you need to seal the orange silicone seal on the bulb to the light unit otherwise it will leak & you get the condensation problem again. I used stormseal, I think its for tents & wetsuits really, but works a treat. With the bulb sealed & the vent open on the top allow the light to breath, everything has been good with mine for a couple of years now.

I think the problem is the wiring loom isn't long enough & pulls on the bulb twisting it round so in time it no longer seals. The stormseal product is enough to hold it in place.

In summary, worth a punt in my view

Thanks nick. I took the plunge and actually decided to follow the refurb thread posted elsewhere on the site. Ive removed the vents as it seems pointless to keep them closed when the seal isn’t good enough to keep the condensation out Shocked

Ill see how long they last, if the start to go again ill get the cheapies from eBay.

Are these eBay cheapies ok at MOT time? I just fitted them then suddenly worried it’s going to be an issue at MOT. Or so they not need to be CE marked on the lens etc?

So long as they work and do not dazzle on coming traffic when main lights are on full beam they are not an MOT failure. Thumbs Up

I painted the glass on mine. They had been leaking properly, and the lenses had corroded to shreds. Couldn't be ar$ed to buy new ones, as they never get used. This was the procedure recommended to me by my MOT guy. Could be different rules over here in Norway, but he was quite strict on the pattern they sprayed.
