Video: Car won't start. HDC Fault. Transmission reduced.
Morning guys,
Please see below video:
Car won't start. It was fine 3 days ago on Tuesday. Got me to work and back no problems.
Is this a battery issue or something more sinister?

Hi Mallo,
Battery was changed about 4 years ago. And I drove it to work which is 9 miles each way on Tuesday this week.

Mine was the cell and my premium exide was 4 years and two weeks old. They refused to replace it under warranty. Pretty annoying but hey ho. A cell had gone in the battery, sometimes would start other times it wouldn’t. It would jump start fine but with a new exide fitted it was all good Search for a link on here and it is next day delivery for £103 all in.James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.

4 years ! They said the warranty is with the manufacturer and not them. So essentially tough.James favourite hobby is writing in the third person.

My Exide premium, also four years old, failed without warning last weekend. I had to call out the AA who got me going but told me the battery was gone. Not totally believing them i ran the car for 40mins and then looked at the secret screen. With the engine running the battery showed 13.5v, as soon as turned off the voltage dropped to 12v but, turning on the headlights it dropped immediately to 11v. Proof enough for me, new one from Tanya on Tuesday but, had no problems in the meantime.Stvmor

Hi
Well I would suspect this is the problem and it could also not be being charged by the alternator properly??
What year is the D3 and is it on the original alternator? if this is the case be aware that there have been fires suspected to failing alternators....
If its original I would get this checked out too.
Good Luck

I think you need an early xmas present if you don't have a battery charger.
Get one with the "free status lead" as they have a longer cable and M8 eyelets hopefully

Hey guys,
Thanks for all the help last week.
Just a heads up, I've managed to get a Duracell Advanced 5 year warranty battery from Eurocarparts for £99 which I'm told is a bargain???

You need to stick a multimeter across the terminals when the engine is running and report your readings back here.
This will tell what your alternator is doing because if it's failing they have been known to kill batteries by causing a dead short.
Too many people have reported spending good money on a replacement battery only to have that one die too due to a failing alternator.

Thanks for the heads up, Narpy.
I'll ask around for a multimeter - might sound like a silly question but would any old sparky have one of them?
