Injector Values (Solved)
Hello,
Recently been having some cold start (not cold weather) issues. Cranking longer then what I would consider "typical".
Gone through the usual list of; Battery, Starter Motor, Fuel Filter etc. All either known good or replaced recently as ongoing maintenance. So rules them out.
Finally got round to reading the injector balance values after reading other posts having similar issues and its not looking good....
Following reading is directly after starting, after having the disco sat for around 5 hours:
Then this reading is after a 20 minuet drive:
So my question is, does it look like I could get away with just changing injectors 2 & 3 (cylinder 2 & 4)?
Or could it be just one injector causing the other to compensate?
Appreciate its a bit of guess work with just balance values. But any advice would be greatly appreciated![/b]

Update...
Had a leak off test done by the local independent and results were that Injector 2 showed "early signs of failure" but was advised as it's not throwing up fault codes its still got life left so leave it for now.
Latest injector readings after running on Shell V Power + Wynns injector cleaner for a month. No great improvement, if anything first start of the day has gotten worse. Other then that no real indication of an issue.
Cold start when left over night, ambient temp of around 17C:
Going down the route of just replacing injector 2(cylinder 4) and injector 3(cylinder 2), assuming that these are only ones with an issue based off the leakoff test and IID values.
Will report back with an update once done as someone else may find the results useful.

Mine started okay, not great but okay, then in the codl weather it had an unstable idle when sat at traffic lights until engine up to operating temp, injector values bit skewiff, bought new injector and messed a round, it appeared to work then would go back to its old tricks, gave up and stuck 6 new ones in.
Now much better starter, no unstable idle when cold,
I do not glow it, open door key in ign and crank it, and pretty much regardless of the weather bang she is away.
What also prompted me was a post by another member, who had a theory that the snapped D4 cranks were injector related, but as you cannot do a balance test on the D4, no one ever knows what has really happened, so as the D3 model has snapped a few cranks in its time!

Extended cranking/poor starting solved and injector values all reasonable!
Replaced injectors 2 & 3 (cylinder 2 & 4) on the weekend and after covering 50 miles the injectors levels smoothed out. Starting is now almost instant, whereas before from a cold engine (not cold weather) it could take anywhere from 10-20 seconds cranking to start(slightly embarrassing). Also changed the engine oil just in case it had been diluted from the leaky injector.
@lynalldiscovery I think having all 6 changed is probably a good idea, for now I'm just happy to have a normal starting disco back! We'll she how she holds up when the temperature start dropping.

Injector balance values are exactly that, quantity of fuel delivered by each injector, they don’t show the most important spray pattern needed for cold starting.It can when others can't,

@Twintorque It's not been too bad to be fair! Although coldest its been down here is only around -3C.
Haven't been driving it lately as its barely warmed up by the time I get to work. It's been sat for the past 5 days but just taken it to the shops to give it a run, cranked a bit slower then what it normal does but its not embarassing like before.

Hi,
Going through some similar injector relted issues. I think I have an issue with Cylinder 1 (according to SDD) injector. However, the note warns that the nomencleture may be incorrect. Do you have a diagram of which injector is where? I presume it might be in the Haynes manual which I do not have.

Good stuff, doesn't seem much wrong with that start. Still starting well a month later ??
My D3 has now done just under 220K and just had another cam/fuel pump belt change. I'm a great believer in preventative maintenance and had the gearbox rebuilt at around 190K ( clutch packs and tc ) before it started giving issues after I got the slightest of hints the tc was worn.
It has recently started requiring a bit of cranking ( 2-4 seconds ) at the first start of each day, pretty sure it is not glow plugs ( but will confirm before replacing anything ) and spotted some smoke the other day when had been sat idling for a while and I then moved off. So i think 6 new injectors are in its future, other than that it runs well.
