A stitch in time?
Situation : dark evening last week, temperature around zero. I raised the tailgate and put the first of my work tools away and went to fetch the rest
I returned to the car with my hands full and in the dark headbutted the corner of the upper tailgate which had sunk a few inches. Don't head cuts bleed!
One or both struts had failed in the cold. Advanced Factors provided replacements a day later and the upper tailgate is now very springy...I should have noticed the deterioration in the first place but its surprising what you get used to.

Don't forget it will have a bit quicker lift when it comes up - don't knock your front teeth out with it when it opens too fast Must stop buying shiny toys....

+1 what darrind says! I fitted 'heavy duty ones as I was having to pull it all the way to the top, and have aspirations about a ladder. And i very nearly caught me out the first time I opened it.
