Power feed to the roof

Hi all,

I’m working on building an expedition rack for my D3 HSE, one of the issues I have is getting 12v power out of the car to the rack for lights etc. I’ll be fitting a second battery under the bonnet and cabling to a fuse / switch board in the boot to take the feeds off (as well as supply anything in the boot) the trick comes in getting from the boot to the roof, I want it permanent but don’t want to start drilling holes in the body work for cable, I also want to be able to remove the rack so need to be able to disconnect the power.

First thought is to utalise the grommet meant for a shark fin which isn’t fitted, maybe fitting a shark fin, but remove the internals and fitting a waterproof socket into the side of it so lights on the rack can terminate onto a plug and plug in when required?

Anyone else done anything similar or done it a different way?

Cheers

What about this kind of thing (many varieties available) mounted directly in front of the sharks fin so invisible from the ground?
Obviously need to drill the roof, but as cannot be seen not the end of the world.

Ooooh, looks good, may even fix straight onto the existing hole for the fin currently blanked out, cheers Smile

I used the wire hider from KC Hilites and ran the wires up the edge of the windscreen.

From dim and distant memory there is a way of getting the cable out the D pillar then out between the top of the upper door and the body. Thumbs Up
