Engine noise
Could someone listen to this video and tell me what they think
Inside oil cap sounds tapping and puffing and the noise towards the end of video on passenger side
Sure it’s not meant to sound like this
Thanks in advance just away towing to south of France in 3 weeks and don’t wanna break down

Not trying to scaremonger here .....
But this comes from Service bulletin SSM71816 CRANKSHAFT/CRANKSHAFT BEARING CONCERNS - TDV6 DIESEL ENGINE
Quote:
Engine makes a loud ‘rumbling/knocking’ sound when running which worsens as the engine is placed under load. The engine oil pressure warning light may flash or be continuously illuminated, especially at low engine speeds.
Ive heard people mention the engine sounds like a bag of spanner’s as well.
My take on it is that if the crankshaft bearings start to slip, they occlude the oil ways (or something like that), and you start getting bad noise.
Lack of lubrication then leads to crankshaft seizing/snapping.
Is there any danger it could be related to this, given you are towing a caravan?
Good luck!

Never get a light and have done a oil
Pressure test and is perfect it’s only the tapping that gets louder under load its like it’s a valve tapping if u know what I mean bit like a Petrol car pinking under load it’s not coming from bottom end as I go under car and the noise is not there if I pull the last injector wore off at the ns rear I gets a lot quieter
Could the valve timming not a millimetre or two out as carnt Remember if it done it before I changed the belt as I only used the cam pins I didn’t remove starter motorDisco 3 gone but not forGotten

Any idea what it could be
the tapping in the oil cap I take it is a tappet hydolic lifter
But the other noise in the passenger side I don’t know

My work van sounded like that and I was thinking the worst, turned out to be the bearing in the water pump.

Hi James, did you do any work on the engine recently? If not, my gut feeling is this could be a faulty injector! Can you do a diagnostic scan and just see what pops up if anything!

Nothing shows up and the injector readings are all about 1000 the noise has been there for ages but not sure if it was there before I done cam belt as I done that the day after I got it but didn’t use the flywheel tool it’s the only thing I can think of
If I disconnect the wiring to the rear injector that side it does get a lot quieterDisco 3 gone but not forGotten

could well be the chain tensioner in the head.
Would be best to get a new chain and tensioner before you go. £150+ in parts.
The passenger side is a pain to do. IIRC

Humm the chain is at the front on the left head. So may not be that?
Note green oil pressure switch for reference.
The chains at the back on the right head
