Gearbox oil discharge
Hi Guys
Does anyone know why my manual gearbox breather pipe is discharging oil,
It’s been doing it for a while and used to end up on the back of the engine and smoke so I extended the pipe and inserted the end into a small pop bottle
The picture is the result of a long period
I’m puzzled as to why, is the box knackered ?
Thanks

I don't think the blue bottle is meant to go into the gearbox.
If you are donig that, it may explain it ??

It could be a blocked or kinked breather thats allowing pressure to build up before it lets goAndrew

Blue bottle is just for size reference of the small one
I might not have the answer to all problems but I aren’t stupid enough to use normal oil in the gearbox
And unfortunately no the breather isn’t kinked anywhere05 TDV6,"S" in all colourcoded Zermatt silver,7 seats winter pack HK 6cd stereo,Dual climate,Xenons,

Has the box been overfilled? Oil looks very black. If its the breather near the radiator, then that is the front diff breather.

Have you filled to the filler plug or have you filled by quantity?
These gear boxes are only supposed to be filled with a set amount of oil not until it comes out the filler hole.Andrew

Just to clear everything up to try and avoid questions about the obvious
It is coming from the correct breather from the gearbox , hence I say gearbox
It is filled correctly by measure
It is the correct oil
I would appreciate educated answers rather than guesses
I understand people try to help but stating the obvious merely frustrates
Thanks

My educated (University of life you understand) quess would be that for gearbox oil to be that black you must have contamination from somewhere else. Or the gearbox is seriously worn.
I've seen factory oil come out of 100000+ mile R380s look lighter than that.
And for that oil to be forced out a presumably proven clear breather then you have excessive pressure in the box.
Either that or the pipe aint the gearbox breather at all.

The outlet end is at the back of the engine05 TDV6,"S" in all colourcoded Zermatt silver,7 seats winter pack HK 6cd stereo,Dual climate,Xenons,

Do you know which of the gearbox breather vents the oil is coming from?yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

OK, perhaps I should have elaborated a little on my last post.
There are two breather vents on the manual gearbox. One from the gearbox, and one from the transfer case.
The transfer case vent travels along the top of the gearbox where it meets the gearbox vent just alongside the XYZ switch. Both pipes then travel independently up the bell housing under the exh crossover pipe and are fixed to the back of the engine just left of the brake vacuum pump. The thinner of the two pipes is the transfer case vent!
You will need to establish which of the two pipes the oil is coming from, and that the correct oil levels are present.
The oil you removed does look beyond service life, but this is not uncommon on the gearbox. The transfer case should be much cleaner though! yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ
