Rear Propshaft issue

Hi all.

My 2005 Tdv6 auto SE has a good past service history and is in great condition (two past owners forum members)

The auto box and torque converter were replaced at 118K miles and the transfer box including rear prop shaft were replaced at 120K miles, it now has 146K miles. I have all the receipts for the work done at LR indy specialists.

I decided to change the auto box fluid (using the Filo pump out method) and transfer box oil, as I believe in preventative maintenance being better than cure.

So today I did the transfer box fluid replacement, super easy job, the old stuff was brown but clean.

Anyhow I noticed that the rear prop centre bearing has play, the prop waggles about at the bearing and it looks like the rubber is ripping, how could this have happened after only 26K miles ? The replacement part was a genuine LR part according to the part number on the receipt & the price of £347 + VAT

I see the bearing can be bought from AF for £47, I read here that it better to buy a complete prop, but surely after such low miles the existing one must be good, It looks quite new and is still with the original black paint on it.

Thx

Mat

You can buy just the joint.
But you need to be experienced in changing it.
You need circlip plyers. It’s a very greasey job with ball bearings.
And 2 people is better to man handle the joint together

Hi, the work dates back to 2015... so no chance on the warranty

I've looked at plenty of pictures, and mine is no where near as bad as most of the ones I've seen, the rubber has just started to split away, so I'm going to try the sikaflex cure instead of buying a new bearing.

Thx
