Disco 3 Randomly Runs rough TDV6

Evening all,

Wondered if anyone could help. Got a D3 with the TDV6 2006.

The car starts fine and runs well but if you apply some revs for a minute or two it starts to run very rough. I have the live values and Injector 2 is over fuelling I have changed the injector and still have the same problem. Some other injectors are under fuelling I presume to compensate, and I have also changed these to no avail. It will then run rough again until you keep the revs on for a few minutes then it will run nice again, but you will slowly see the values go high on injector 2 and it then goes lumpy again. Photos attached of the balance values

Hi

Can’t see the picture I’m afraid , plus any fault codes showing

Have u replaced the filter with a genuine / oem one along with checking what the LP readings are at the back of the engine , should be around 0.5bar / 7.25 Psi

Robbie has done an excellent guide

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/robbies-gui...t=Low+fuel

Have u checked that ur egrs are ok

The more knowledgeable members will be more help Thumbs Up

Hope that may help

Are you aware that injector numbers do not match cylinder numbers? Injector 2 is located in cylinder 4

Great point @ aja4x4 Bow down

Think this is correct

Injector 1 is in cylinder 1
Injector 2 is in cylinder 4
Injector 3 is in cylinder 2
Injector 4 is in cylinder 5
Injector 5 is in cylinder 3
Injector 6 is in cylinder 6

Thanks everyone. Changed the filter but not checked the LP fuel pump. I will check that. I uploaded the pictures but they have vanished for some reason.... I didnt click UPLOAD! when it runs rough its like it is missfiring and the engine shakes

Video - https://photos.app.goo.gl/Rzxjtp49VNGpPeDj6 the chuffing sound goes when it runs right after a little revving. I have removed all injectors and put new copper washers on them there was no blowby on them but did it anyway. I get the codes that cylinder 3 is at its upper limit and 1 3 & 5 are at the minimum.

I did know they layout is not in numerical order but iv got the IID setup in the correct order Very Happy

Thanks for your help!

Hi

Hope u didn’t mind , Just reposted ur pics to try and make them a bit sharper , as a side note u can also email the pics to urself via the iid or take a screenshot

May i ask , what make of filter did u fit please , many thks

Know the more knowledgeable members will know this, but have u checked and cleaned ur MAP sensor as I noticed u still have ur egr pipes connected

Have u done any live data readings of ur sensors , ie MAP , MAF etc to see what they are , can then easily post up the ones I’ve done as a comparison for u

Many thks Thumbs Up

@KostasA i have checked them and checked the loom back to the ecu with a multimeter and its all good for all injectors.

@gstuart Thanks. That tablet has no wifi as it broken and im getting use to using this forum! Originally it was a genuine one but no idea when it was last changed but I had a new crosslands one laying about the workshop so put that on. Not idea i know but i wouldnt expect a new filter to have the same issue instantly. I have cleaned the MAP sensor and tried another off another D3 i have. I have not touched the MAF sensor so i will check that out but would a MAP or MAF sensor cause these weird injector values? I have also changed injector 5 with injector 3 and it still does the same.

Only reason I ask about the fuel filter is I’ve read that the D3 prefer a genuine or decent oem filter

Assume the next step will be to see what pressures u have via the low pressure test point at the back of the engine

Please let us know how u get on and the members here who are a lot more knowledgeable will be able to help more than myself

Just wondered ref live data just to see what the Map / Maf sensors were reading so at least u can see there also within range

Fingers crossed is a simple fix
