Engine Rebuild/Replacement |
|
Afternoon,
Can anyone point me in the direction of anyone that could help?
I’ve tried a few places with no luck,
It’s an 07 tdv6 2.7
Been told it’s the crankshaft I’m located near Blackpool but not too bothered about recovery costs
Within reason!
Thanks in advance!!

Are you aware of the costs involved?
I ended up scrapping my 06 after engine problems

Yer I’ve had people quote around £3000 for it supplies and fitted
Only problem is the 500 recovery down south and then having to collect myself
Which isn’t really feasible currently with the restrictions in place

£3k supplied & fitted is IMHO far too cheap.
Go to someone decent, recommended by members here, for a price.
You could start with Oval Autos; see this post:-

They are in Cradley B64 7RW, so much closer to you than "down south".
Good luck - let us know how you get on.
If you are determined to go with the £3k deal "down south", let us know with whom you are dealing & we may be able to help.

£3k is way to cheap, its well above that for a new engine from LR just for supplying
Dont let anyone pick it up and take it away unless you are 110% sure who it is and you have done your research, we read time and time again of people who hand over wads of cash and also their motors for it never to both to be seen again
Whats the name of the outfit quoting £3k and what are you getting for that?

Just spoke with oval on the phone they don’t do them any longer although did say they start around 3000
But with parts it can quite easily jump up depending what’s needed.
The company is royalrebuilds it’s a quote of 3499 with transport this is with a 30% discount.
Thanks!

A factory recon, with a 2yr unlimited mile warranty is circa £7k
Most of the aftermarket "recons" are utter , and the warranty isn't worth the paper its written on... My D3 Build Thread

I think this might be the company with whom you are dealing:-
https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company...ng-history
Effectively a brand new company with £100 capital.
I would be VERY careful, particularly if they are giving the warranty.

Thanks for the inputs!
Maybe I am flogging a dead horse then!
Any idea what the best way to at least recoup some money would be?

Is this now a Disco 3 (with a dead engine) for sale? I am looking for a tidy one, to try an engine transplant from a Jaguar that I have. Unfortunately, I am also down south relatively speaking, so some distance away.

Joe @ Oval hasn't done 2.7 rebuilds for a few years. It's not worth it due to the value of the D3s vs the effort they go through.
They don't just simply fit engines, they check and rebuild right down to the bare components - all new bearings, new lifters, guides, all injectors sent away and tested for flow rate and spray pattern, cranks, rods, pistons, flywheel and pulley are sent away and balanced as a complete set etc. The end result is a much more finely balanced and smoother running engine than you would buy new from JLR....
...but not for the 2.7, only for the 3.0 nowadays. Kev

Jaguar or Ford Territory engines are the replacement of choice. The one "down south" might be a 'fly by night' type business as a secondhand engine is that price. A fellow up north with initials DM may be able to assist you
