Rear Diff locking when in D and R but not N (help) |
|
Evening all,
So my D3 went in today for what I thought was a clicking driveshaft, but wasn't.
When the car is in D or R and in full lock the rear diff appears to lock, the wheels clunk and the car shakes.
When in a straight line the car performs perfect.
While the vehicle is in N and pushed around the yard the diff is fine.
While on the ramp the wheels and diff perform as expected.
Currently the car is booked back in for next Friday but I would love to have something to point them to first so as to limit my labour costs.
Current possibly avenue is the Transfer box, and a possibly related issue is that when in D or R the light for N is also illuminated. No faults showing on ECU.

Looks like this is they way to do it so it's first on my list of jobs for tomorrow.
Calibration can be carried out using the service tool or by following this procedure:
* Switch ignition to position II without the engine running
* Select automatic or manual transmission neutral
* Depress the throttle pedal fully
* Press and hold the range change switch for 5 or more seconds to allow calibration to start
* When the calibration is heard to start, the switch and throttle pedal can be released
* Upon adopting high range, start the engine and wait 30 seconds while the first calibration of the clutch in high range is done.
While this calibration process is in progress, no shifting is accepted
* Switch ignition off and wait 15 seconds
* Start engine
* Perform a range change to low range. Wait 30 seconds while the first calibration of the clutch in low range is done.
While this calibration process is in progress, no shifting is accepted
* Switch ignition off and wait 15 seconds
* Range and clutch calibration is now complete.

So it hasn't worked, I have read the codes and I'm getting the following error.
P2789-00 clutch adaptive learning at its limit.
Help I'm lost.
