EGR delete, re-fitting pipes with blanks in place.
Your advice would be very much appreciated.
MOT coming up and I'm re fitting EGR pipes back on with the bottom blanks still in place.
My plan-
Remove top blanks and insert pipes back into plastic housing .
Bolt the bottom of the pipes back down with the blanks in between.
I have tried this and the pipes fit.
Now the question is - should I use a new gasket between the pipe and the blank e.g. part number 1331267
Or will just bolting it down to the blank suffice .

Reuse the old gasket.

Old gaskets fell apart on removing pipe . New gaskets purchased to fit on to the blanks when I fitted them a few years ago. Wondering if I should purchase some more to go between pipe and blank.

Yes. that is a good point. You don’t want the engine to draw in unmetered air.

My understanding is that they are not allowed to remove engine cover. So just put the outer section of the pipe back. Undo the clip and remove the bit that goes into the Y piece. Leave the inner blanks in place

I just fitted the pipes on top of the blanking plates. I didn’t bother reconnecting the top because they are hidden under the engine cover which can’t be removed by the examiner. Passed no problem having failed on them not being there.New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

Hello All,
Some technical input required, please. I've got a failed left side EGR. I've just been down to Advanced Factors and purchased blanking plates, gaskets and a couple of spare bolts which I intend fitting ASAP as well as removing the butterfly. I'm going to blank and leave the piped in-situ, here's the problem. Which order do the parts fit? Starting at the EGR valve body and working towards the pipe.......
1. gasket then blanking plate or
2. blanking plate then gasket
Option 1 would prevent exhaust gas leakage but could lead to unmetered air leaking up the pipe and into the engine.
Option 2 would prevent unmetered air leaking up the pipe and into the engine but could lead to exhaust gas leakage.
So is it...
3. gasket then blanking plate then gasket
And, if so, are the bolts long enough?

both are important.
I guess preventing a boost leak or air into engine is more important.
If the exhaust leaks (you will hear it).
Which ever face doesn't look smooth or machined will require the gasket

Cheers for the rapid response. Better get another pair of gaskets ordered looking at Leon's second post regarding the old gaskets falling apart when disconnected.

Also ordered and fitted new bolts to go through everything, original bolts long enough.
Gaskets and bolts all purchased from advanced factors.

Many thanks. Looks like I'm on my way back to AF on Monday . Luckily I only live 15 miles away .
Hopefully this will help others (I thought it may have been considered a daft question) especially with the MOT rule changes meaning people will be blanking and leaving the pipework in-situ.

if you know which side failed, you have enough parts to do that don't you ?
or guess and do one side.

Pete,
I bought 2 gaskets. From the codes I got (P140E P140D P140A) it's the left (passenger) side.
Given that I've got a round trip of 30 miles to AF, which would you recommend:
1. Blank off the left side EGR, remove the butterfly then go get the extra gaskets and blank the right or
2. Go get the extras then blank both and remove the butterfly
