Advice on purchasing a D3 |
|
Evening Folks ,
Am looking fo some advice I plan to be purchasing a D3 in the next few months but am searching for the right one , preferably low mileage and with a budget of 8K , have seen a couple on Autotrader with 45 - 50K on the clock.
Was wondering what do i need to take into consideration when looking at one mechanically and can the servicing be carried out at home or does it need a garage to do this ?
Have also heard that the Turbo's can blow & are costly , is this true and what causes them to fail ?
Regards,

Evening ,
As I am on the hunt for a D3 Is there any particular year I should avoid when looking for one ?
I would like leather interior but not to fussed with electric seats. Heated seats would be a bonus as well as a heated front windscreen.

No real reason to avoid any particular year... just make sure that the belts have been changed and the oil pump changed to the later (revised) version - or do like I did and get them done shortly after you buy it.

I see i take it the revised version of pump is better and would you have a part number for this and would the dealer stock the revised version ?

Its modified to make the cambelt tensioner mount stronger as when the old design oil pump casing fractures the timing lets go and your engine is most likely scrap, new engines plus fitting are more than the value of most D3s.

Trouble is the chances of finding one off this forum that has had the pump changed is nil.
Nothing wrong with 2005 if in good condition. It’s £200 a year less on tax but pointless if rusty

No longer the Old Buses original owner
231,000 miles and counting

D4 Face lifted
Still original injectors and turbo
V8 Front brakes
BAS Remap, Allisport Intercooler and deCat
EGRs blanked
T-Max split charge
Hanibal Expeedition rack
Prospeed ladder
Duratrac tyres
