D4 towing electrics removal - part 2 - refit
Chaps, was removing the towbar and electrics for D4, to use again on new D4, and expected everything to be plug and play, but its not. Most is, but its this bit with the 2 fuses that's strange. These are hard wired in, and only one seems to be connected to the blue/pink wire in the towing wiring harness. Its been soldered in. If you look at the pic closely, you will also see a small black wire (which OK, I snipped) which was soldered into one of the white earth wires in the towing loom.

Do I need the two fuses for the next D4, as I'm not sure where they are connected to?
assistance please (as ever)
Thanks

Does the rest of it look OEM because that bit certainly doesn't?
Was it already fitted when you purchased it - is there a chance it wasn't fitted with OEM electrics?

yep, rest of the loom looks like OEM, thats why I was surprised to see this bit, and yes, it was already fitted. All the other plugs/sockets both inside and outside, and the gromets all look like OEM.

I'm quite sure mine (also13 pin OEM) doesn't have that bit with the two fuses.

I am fairly sure of hearing talk about the D4 having some online fuses in the back. I know it doesnt have the little fuse board in the rear that the D3 had.
Very strange, dont know whether to cut them or not now, as only one of them looks like its connected to the towing loom

Heres a pic of the top part of the loom:

Its looks OEM to me, but you can see where one of the fuse feeds was connected - the black tape on the blue/pink wire.
I have cut it now, and removed this part of the loom. I'm hoping this is all I need for the new D4.

The loom changed again for the most recent years so I don't think it will fit your next D4 but I don't recall any with inline fuses and those holders look very ebay.
No fuses on my MY13 loom either - the CJB now has that role.

The connectors look exactly the same as the ones as part of the car's internal loom. Most of the non oem ones I've seen have been completely splice in, no connectors at all, which made me think this one was OEM.
Are you also saying that a MY12 towing loom is different to a MY16 towing loom?

Not seen one myself but I understand they are different. The installation has also gone from 'a doddle' to 'a right pain' due to the rear end changes too.

This came out of a MY2011 D4 and I was going to fit it to my MY2015 but it looks like that wont work now if Robbie is correct
There are no inline fuse holders on it Cheers Ian

Hi Ian
So yours looks exactly like my loom (from MY12), so maybe the two fuses are nothing to do with it.
Sounds like we need a definative answer to what loom fits what model year D4.

Rimmerbros does not appear to have a VIN split, so perhaps the same set will fit the later vehicles with the radar brackets but the loom does look a bit different?
Anyway, needs a definitive from microcat, which I only have access to from home.

But it still doesn't explain what the extra wires and fuses that were fitted to Al's were for does it?

Well until Al traces the wiring path we will not know for sure, but given that someone has taken some care and installed inline fuses my guess would be a professionally installed tracker.
