Daytime Running Light -Settings
I have a UK spec Disco 3 on a 56 Plate, that I will shortly be exporting to the EU, it would be useful to have the headlights programmed to behave in the EU way, i.e. on when driving. I believe this is something than can be setup, does anyone know how involved it is, presumably I need a IID to do this, or will lesser tools accomplish it?

IID will do it but in practice it will depend on the country you’re relocating to or visiting. For example, in Spain people tend to drive lights off and turn them on only when entering a tunnel which is for my organized Scandinavian mind really annoying
While I have Scandinavia DRL activated, I don’t use it - the setting is honored only if you have the light switch in the off position. IMO it is not very useful since it affects only the driving lights and not the instrument panel.
I’ve got the light switch always in the auto position so I have positioning lights + xenon low beam on at all times. In the auto, the lights turn on when turning the ignition to position I and while driving, of course. They switch off when turning ignition to position 0.
YMMV.

Bulgaria, where the expectation is that you have dipped headlights on all the time. In the UK I just leave it in auto, so it would be good if I could do the same and leave it auto, and have the dipped headlights and tail lights on when the ignition is on. Which sounds very similar to what you describe.
I was hoping a lesser system might do it, as I can justify £150 on an icarsoft to the missus but she won't go for £400 quid setup the lights lol.
guess I better start ringing round on monday, see if any of the independents can config it for me.

If you’re happy with auto (so position lights and xenon on) I wouldn’t do anything like spending money on enabling DRL. I’ve assumed that “dipped headlights” is equivalent to writing “low beam”.

there are 2 settings you can use.
Scandinavia - lights on all the time. (the ignition is on I think)
Canadian. lights on when the gear selector is put into D. (probably park brake related too for manual)
I recall its silly, that you can't select main beam unless the light switch is set to on!

In DRL mode you can flash the long beam but you can’t put it on continuously, I think. As I said earlier, I don’t think the D3 DRL is worth having on but YMMV as always.

It’s built into the rain sensor so you need to ensure you don’t disable that

I really struggled with this. I live in Switzerland where headlights are mandatory - there are a lot of tunnels and this makes sense. However, the dash speedo lights still do not come on automatically which is REALLY annoying. i.e. I can't actually see my speed in tunnels unless I manually turn on the lights. And when I do full beam comes on 50% of the time. This is after whatever changes I made with my IID. If you find a fix for this, let me know!

That sounds like another reason that tricking the auto lights is a better solution. Does anybody know the layout of the light sensor\rain sensor inside the housing? i.e. how accurately I can block the sensor. I guess I need to block only enough light that it thinks it's dull, doesn't have to be complete blacked out.

If you had auto light, you could put it on that setting.
THe dash lights, should then come on, and main beams be available when required

Problem is the lights, only come on when it's dark. We need to trick them to be on all day.

A related issue is that - in the UK at least - only the front DRLs come on, the rear lights don't. In other locations the rears are also required to be on.

.. and the issue with that is that people get in their car and drive at dusk and dark, and because they can see (thinking they have lights on..) never turn their dipped beam on, and don't have rear lights either.
The DRL's are too bright for night time use, so cause too many issues for oncoming traffic when misused.2011 MY D4 HSE
