Steering wheel wobble, not wheel bearing |
|
So had the truck about a month now, drove perfectly. To nice in fact.
Last week I got a pronounced tick on the steering wheel, even at low speeds (sub 10mph).
Booked it in and they did find a OS bearing. Changed.
Picked it up today and the tick is still there with your normal wobble around 30mph.
I'm wondering if its just simply balancing although surely that should give the wobble at speed not the tick at low stick.
The front tires are odd and one is on the way out however I've had a good month of perfect steering before hand.
Any other ideas? Props wouldn't do that would they?
I picked it up today with the garage closed as I got stuck in London, bit disappointed they didn't find it was the same before and after the change. Ill give them a ring Monday.

Wobble could be the balancing out, yes. Even just a few grams out does make a considerable difference.
Tick could be a worn ARB drop link but hard to say without seeing/hearing what you mean.
You could start with cheap fixes by switching the tyres around and making sure they are up to the correct pressure. Then take it from there.

Ah I meant tick as in the wheel (wobbles) 'ticks' in your hand at 5mph, rather than it actually making a ticking 'sound' ---------------------------------

I am struggling with a similar problem. I guess your problem has been solved, and hopefully you have a solution to share.

Could be a bulge/bubble in one of the front tyres.

Tonight I swapped tires front/rear, I also checked air pressure and there was a difference at front axle that explains the tracking problem. When I did my test ride it seems like vibration is close to eliminated/ moved to rear end, and there was no tracking to left.
Existing winter tires are worned out and has to be replaced, so my next step will be to swap to summer tires during April. In the meanwhile I x my fingers.
Replacing brake disk and rear drive shaft was planned up front, but when I got my sympthom from one day to another I started to replace parts from the shelf, and I "forgotten" to take care of the basik.
Lesson learned.

I know this fault is sorted but for info, sudden steering wheel wobble from out balance wheels can be caused by mud stuck to the inside of the wheel if been off road.
