Front Nearside Wheel Bearing - Play and noise!!
For months I have mentioned a wurring noise at around 35mph, infact posted my initial views on here, to help the stealer, anyhow, two services later (we do alot alot of miles), noise getting louder and more noticeable at most speeds so took him into the dealer who serviced it only 2 weeks ago and went for a jolly down the road with a technician..... horay, he noticed it straight away..... I thought driveshaft (vehicles done 208,000 miles) he thought something a little less expensive!!
Up on the ramp he had a fellow tech in the car and the four wheels in the air whilst on the ramp, ran him up to 50 mph and we all listened....... sure enough the tech identified the nearside front wheel bearing as the problem and infact to further the point, moved the wheel to demonstrate the play!!
The question for you guys..... warranty or not warranty and the job to take 2.5 hours at £75.00 per hour plus £109 (inc vat) for the part..... your thoughts please?

Possibly not warranty my friend, Is it not in the realms of a DIY fix or independent garage perhaps.

If the vehicle is still in the warranty period and it's unlimited mileage warranty ......then warranty prevails 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Vehicle still under warranty although stealer not quite sure as they have never had a need to replace one, so much so that there are only around 10 stealers in the country who have one on the shelf!!!
Perhaps someone can suggest the best way to tackle this warranty issue, would it be pc for me to ring LR assist in the morning and ask for the warranty dept ahead of the vehicle going in during the afternoon?
I got this sort of response from stealers for some of my issues, but LR always came to the party.
Just stick to your guns with the dealer and insist that it's warranty. Unlimited mileage is unlimited mileage.
Only one bearing gone, generally means you haven't been doing anything silly.Have a nice day!

Done 3 wheel bearings myself, all front. Can do it in just over an hour.
But warranty will cover it, unlimited mileage

Disco_Mikey, do you need a press or a BIG hammer

I supported the hub on the front face with some blocks of wood, and let out some frustration with a BIG hammer
Suppose you could use a press though if you have access to one. Not as much fun though

I'm am livid.....having taken the advise from fellow members regards the nearside wheel bearing failing, I received a call from our LR Stealer to say that "due to the mileage, it is not covered by LR Warranty" and therefore the bill will be £243.98 inc vat.
From what I gather the issue seems to revolve around the "area warranty controller's" personal views that such a vehicle should have its extended unlimited warranty cancelled due to the high mileage given that it is an ex-Highways Agency vehicle.
The fact that then and now, the vehicle is maintained to the highest standard regardless of cost, serviced at the correct time, by the same LR stealer and used in the same way by us as the Highways Agency (ie no off-roading,just motorway miles) seems to fall on deaf ears.
This is further added to by the service manager at the stealer who is well aware that the hourly rate and revenue for LR Warranty repairs IS lower than those of the retail customer, so he's up the otherones !
We have had minor issues that other members have had no problem in having resolved, not been corrected under warranty because of these two indivdual's views.
We have previously been to another LR dealer a number of months ago to investigate what we now know to be the wheel bearing, only to refused to investiage the problem, after a conversation has taken place behind closed doors from one service manager to another.
I've got no problem if the any repair falls outside of warranty, none what so ever, but what I am very cheesed off about is the biase opionion of a few reflecting upon our legal right to have works completed under the manufactuers warranty!
Your advise would be warmly welcomed whilst I have a fag and a coffee to quell my brow

Does your warranty specify an age or mileage where it will cease to be covered ?
I assume you were given a warranty when you bought it, so the T&C's should be to hand.
I would guess that unless it states a mileage or limitation (and your under that limitation) then legally you should be covered by the warranty.

This is what is not covered in the warranty.
The vehicle warranty does not cover items that are subject to adjustment or replacement during normal service or maintenance operations. In addition, Land Rover is not responsible for any repair or replacement that is required as a direct result of:
· Normal wear and tear
I would probably say 208k on one wheel bearing is pretty good. This is surely worn out from normal wear and tear and not a defective component.Global Warming.... I'm luvvin it
