What are these? Bits in battery box; oh and low power mode”?
So, about to tackle the last of my sunroof drains, and maybe front fog lamps.
Took the battery out to stick it on charge for a bit.
Noticed these
rattling about beside the fuse box and the outside wall of the battery box.
Looks like they got dropped when some maintanance took place, but no idea what or where they came from?
Anybody else got an idea?
Also, anyone any thoughts on the radio flashing up “low power mode” after starting the engine?
I’ve noticed occasionally the car will warn “HDC fault. Special programs off” on starting, and if it try to operate the steering wheel volume control, the radio may flash up “low power mode”
The radio recovers, and HDC and special programs always available so have largely ignored while I sort out water leaks.
My generic OBD2 reader tells me the battery is sitting at 11v preignition, about 10v immediately after ignition, but comes up to 14v once engine running. Out of the car, my DMM is reading 12.4v
Assuming the faults are related to battery charge level, that’s why I’m going to charge it while working on her today.
But worth asking perhaps?
Oh, and I found a breather hose inside the batter box. Seems to run in from the rear of the engine compartment, coming up from “underneath”. Any ideas?

Your stray bits look like mouldings that clip onto the bottom edge of a battery to facilitate alternative clamping methods.
Not sure about your faults!Not such a Disco Newbie now!

Breather hose in the battery box should be attached to the battery, if it has a breather, small plastic pipe near the corner of the battery, bit like a washer battle connection

Agree, off a battery that is clamped at the bottom, and under a lip in the tray

Your HDC special progs fault is probably linked to low battery voltage on initial start-up.
Charging might help, or maybe worth getting a new battery after ensuring the alternator is ok.
Low power mode from the stereo is again battery power related.

Had sort of reached that conclusion, but as a followup.
Battery is only 13 months old, but I read in the manual that it should be Group 95R, either 90 or 110 Ah
Guessing the 110 Ah is for disco's with a lot of electrical stuff like the sat nav and air suspension.
This battery is a type 19 but doesn't list a BCI group number, but its only 100 Ah.
Could it just be that the battery is actually OK but underpowered for the Car?

Maybe it just needs good charge.
Depending on your use, short journeys or lots of opening and closing doors etc can drain the battery especially in winter with the lower temperatures and probably more electrical items, heated windows and seats etc in use.
