Timken or Britpart..?

Which is better?

Having investigated a bit of a rumble from the front end, I found the offside front wheel bearing a bit worn. Pleased that i had found the problem, I thought Ihad better just check the nearside, which was much worse.

Since it was Saturday, and I only had Sunday to work on the car, I went to my local independent supplier who had one Timken hub, and one Britpart unit on the shelf.

I bought and fitted both, and we will see which lasts longer Smile

As an aside, I am planning to start a business importing copaslip to Solihul - they clearly don't have any there at the moment Evil or Very Mad Wink

Be interesting, although from AFs experience none of the alternatives to Timken/LR lasted well.

Re: copaslip. That's why the longer I own a vehicle the more I tend to like working on it, as I know the 'next' time I come to replace a part it'll actually separate.

From experience Britpart bearings don't seem to fair well at all !

I've replaced D3 near side twice. 2nd time with a Timken.

Also FL2 rear wheel bearings, replaced one side 3 times (twice with Britpart and then AF supplied) other side has been replaced twice. The 2nd time with AF supplied bearing.

So the winner is....

Timken. Which isnt a surprise really, and it jolly well should be better given the price difference.

But the Britpart unit lasted 57,000 miles, so could be worse.
New gearbox & TC, 3 x front wheel bearings, belts changed, new oil pump, new battery, new rear prop, new front prop, new front diff, front arb refurbed, front cv boot kit, egr blank and BAS software patch, full rear suspension / drivelive rebuild, new front arms, LED trailer light fix, split charge.
Never had a 107, 90 or 127, but have had most of the rest!

I am surprised the Britpart one lasted so long.. Amazing.. Thumbs Up

If the Britpart is half the price of the Timkin and the Timkin lasts twice as long that means all things are equal....

Except time and costs to fit .....
