Wheel nuts loose
When driving home yesterday, I noticed that my D3 was behaving strangely. It felt like the front wheels wanted to do their own thing/the steering wheel was loose.
It was only another couple of miles home and getting very late, I decided to carry on and investigate later.
Had a quick look this morning and there are a number of loose wheel nuts (3/4 on the front and 2/3 on the rear)?
Is this a "normal" thing on the Disco's or is there something more sinister going on (neighbour who wants to get shot of me)?

Deffo not normal. When were the wheels last off and were they torqued up properly?

Certainly not usual if they are torqued up correctly. SNAP!

I have owned the car since the end of May and never had the wheels off.
The last time they were off when the garage I bought the car from replaced the brake pads to MOT it when I bought it.
So it sounds like they forgot to tighten them properly.

More lightly that someone was going to "borrow" them and got disturbed or couldn't get the jack high enough.
SWMBOs car had new brake pads done and mechanic told me he'd undone one set of wheel nuts with his fingers. only people to have had the wheels off previously were the Vauxhall dealers.

I lost a wheel off a twin axel ifor Williams cattle box once. My fault put the wheel on and tightened the nuts untill the wheel turned, dropped the jack and forgot to tighten them. Less than 10 miles before the wheel fell off. Walked back the road 100 yards from where we and the wheel parted company and found all the nuts within 50 yards of each other.

My thought is that "someone" had a go at taking them. How long since the brake pads changed on the vehicle ?

I have a little visual reminder that the nuts haven't been torqued. The centre caps don't go on a wheel til I've torqued it. Torque then cap on, not once I think I've counted to 4. And I always re-do them after any visit to the dealer (in case over-tightened) or anyone else that has had the wheels off.

And this is why whenever the wheels have been off you need to recheck the nuts a few days/miles later they will almost always move.
99 times out of a 100 its whoever last had the wheels off who is to blame, they will come out with a 100 reasons why its not their fault, but trust me it is their fault.

Unless you de-rust the hub there's no point in torqueing the nuts

I don't think that anybody wanted to take them, as off all 4 wheel the nuts are loose.
There are no missing nuts at all. Surely they would have started with one wheel and removed the nuts completely?
Might invest in a torque wrench and check once in a while.
How tight should they be?

As the wheels were running loose on the hub (as you felt it through the steering), I'd be wary of the stud holes on the affected wheels.
Chances are they'll show signs of wear and may have elongated.
Best you check it out and make sure they're still roadworthy before you just torque them up....... always on the road less travelled 🚧
