Theft in N.Ireland.
In Mid / Late September 2017 the Quick Detachable Towbar and Spare Wheel were stolen from my D3 HSE at Newry Railway Station.
The PSNI gave me the impression that this was an isolated one off but the Translink staff advised me that there had been a number of thefts like this from D3s / Rangies parked in the car park. There is partial CCTV coverage of this car park however nothing of relevance was found.
If there was theft from your vehicle in this area please advise on this thread.D3 HSE Diesel Auto 2005 Zambezi Silver.

Best thing to do, is not to leave a removeable towbar on the car if you are not using it. Richard

I also have the bracket to hold my 'detachable' tow hook in place using allen key bolts,
My thinking is that not many would be thieves carry the correct size Allen key to enable them to remove the bracket therefore making my 'removable' hook an almost 99% non removable hook now

The problem with this is, if the thieves are thwarted at the first attempt, they will be suitably equipped on their return, especially if you use the same car park frequently so you may only deter the first thief. Mods:

Theft.
Thanks for your replies.
I have replaced the Q. D. towbar with a Thule Brinks multi height towbar (OEM). Same as Land Rover item but without the LR name. Fitting instructions were Land Rover inc LR logos. Approx half the price of the LR item from Rimmers. On supply / fitting of Spare Wheel etc marking everything with "Alphadot" Microdot marker dye.D3 HSE Diesel Auto 2005 Zambezi Silver.

An "Alphadot" Microdot marker dye will not stop the wheel from getting stolen again and if you are still parking in the same place it will probably go again. You need a RLD spare wheel protector to stop it getting stolen.

I will be looking into the RLD anti theft device and Wildlife Game / Trail Cameras. True tag system will NOT prevent theft but may act as a deterrent and help catch rogues preventing the next theft. High profile CCTV notices and cameras will also serve both these aims. Maybe the latest version of the winch has the cable protected as in the RLD device. Land Rover should of addressed this security weakness years ago.D3 HSE Diesel Auto 2005 Zambezi Silver.

End of saga (hopefully).
Q.D. tow hitch replaced with Multi Height Tow Bar assembly.
New version of winch assembly has a steel tube covering the coil spring / cable as defence against cutting the cable.
Protector plate for Spare Wheel sourced from W.J. PATTON (Northern Ireland).
Advised by them that they had recently sold 3 other protectors to people in Newry who had also had spare wheels stolen whilst parked at Newry Railway Station.
As deterrent and aid to identifying rogues vehicle is now marked (wheels / cat etc) with Alpha Dot Identification system.
Extremely dissatisfied with the PSNI who treated this as an isolated one off event and not as one of other similar events.
Posters in the Newry Police Station indicate who the police help (ref. Ashers Bakery Belfast).D3 HSE Diesel Auto 2005 Zambezi Silver.
