Aggressive tire on 20 inch wheels D4

Okey, trying to concatenate all the information I have managed to obtained searching all kinds of forums. Hope some of you might help me out. Trying to put it all in this thread as it might be useful for others.

Wanted to go with Compomotives in 18 with KO2, but think I just want to settle at the original 20. This motivates a search for an aggressive tire. It seems for aggressiveness there are just a few choices that delivers in 20 inch:

- Toyo Open Country's in 275/55/20
- Nitto Terra Grappler in 275/55/20 and 285/50/20
- BFG A/T KO2 in 275/55/20 and 285/50/20
- Cooper LTZ (not really comparable to the ones above I think, but still...) in 285/50/20

So, potentially some of these might fit without rub using std. suspension setups. But on which rims. Some facts I have gathered (please add or correct):

- The Toyo fit on Stomers (hard to know if they are the original or not?) using 20 mm spacers and lift rods. (http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic119704.html). So this is not an option. No info regarding rub if only spacers are used. Anyway this is also a MT tire so also maybe too aggressive for a do it all tire.
- Nitto Grappler 285/50//20 supposedly rubs (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/l319-discovery-3-and-4-a/221144-275-55-20-front-tyres-rubbing-chassis.html) so the 275/55/20 has to rub in std. config.
- BFG A/T KO2 ??????
- Cooper LTZ in 285/50/20 fits if using original LR 8.5 rims (offset of 53, instead of e.g. 58 on non-original Stormers, which supposedly do rub), see here (http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic107185.html).

So all in all it seems it is down to the LTZ which needs to be matched with a correct rim. I was hoping for something else. However, the KO2 is a much more rugged and aggressive tire and it would be really nice if someone had some information about this tire in either the 285/50 or 275/55 fitted on for instance std. LR rims, particularly the ones with 8.5 in order to get some decent curb and rock protection of the rims. Suppose the 275/55 is uninteresting based upon the experience from the Toyo.

My last 3 D4's came with 20" rims as standard fit. I came to the conclusion that the best option was to fit either 19" LR rims or 18" Compomotive rims. 19" rims can be easily bought used and there's a good choice of 255-55-19 tyres available.

Hmmm, Why do you want to go so fat? skinnier tyres get you more places (unless you're on a beach). I would go with 255/55/20 duratracs, myself. I don't like comps either and these rims are less money -- so it's a win win. Moreover, the 20" rim has common sized tyre options, as it's the rim size fitted to many new pick ups (and the yanks do drive the tyre market).

Here is the set up I am getting this week (mock-up of the wheel and tyre on my rig to see if the rim suited Zara in gunmetal grey). These tyres are 255/55/20 duratracs, though if you really want to go fat, they make a 275/55/20 too:

I have 275/45/20 on my D4 and sometime soon I’ll be fitting 285/50/20 Cooper LTZ’s and fitting spacers. The 275/45 look like they don’t belong there, the look like nothing in those arches.
