Will the 2014 engine have better performance as in the specification or is that an ECU programming?

Quick question will engine from a 2014 d4 3.0 sdtv fit into a 2010 60 plate d4 3.0 tdv6
Check the VIN from the donor car, from eCat JLR
From VIN AA000001 to EA710350: Stripped engine P/N LR063285
Here the OSI History:

From VIN EA710351 - ON: Stripped engine P/N LR086430
But I don't know why they changed the P/Ns... may be the newest can fitted ...... or may be not
For example, engine heads are the same for all MY LH: LR083672 and RH: LR014249
And same as per camshafts...........................Discovery 5 tdv6 HSE Corris Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

I'm pretty sure that the MY2014 engine will be OK! .....Discovery 5 tdv6 HSE Corris Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition
Is the SDV6 currently on an 8sp gearbox? Will there be any issues dropping it into a 6sp car such as ECU programming etc?

Best way is that you keep your engine harness, ECUs,.....
Remember, if you will use new injectors (I mean the injectors installed on the "new" engine), they must be "re-coded" on your OLD ECU (using IIDTool or SDD SWs, you ECU keep stored the injector codes of the OLD ones)
If I do not rember wrong the "coupler flange" from HP6 and HP8 are the same, obviously you MUST keep your HP6 6 speed gearbox.
In different words, you can use the NEW engine, but no too much more.....
Sell the HP8 gearbox on eBay or here........Discovery 5 tdv6 HSE Corris Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

I may have a 47k mile SDV6 engine out of my 2009 HSE available. Currently still installed and running but noisy crank. Getting a new engine to install and hence old engine less ancillaries will be available.
