Changing tyre profile size |
|
255/50R20 - 255/55R20
Needing some new tyres, so thinking I will probably go for 255/55-20 from my 255/50-20.
Question is - do I need to change the spare as well.
Also if I do change the spare will the new sized tyre fit within the plastic cover that LR fit underneath a MY16D4

yes you can go up in profile, and yes it would be advisable to have the spare with the same profile as otherwise you will run (if spare fitted) 2 tyres on the same "axle" that have 2 different circumference measurements. This means one will be doing more revolutions per mile than the other.
As for the bigger profile fitting underneath - yes, ths fits. I have 275x45x21 (so the same size diameter as 255/55x20) under the back of mine.

Cheers Al,
Reason I'm wanting a change, is really just that I'm wanting a larger profile for a better ride. more protection from kerbs/off road etc.
and the GG AT3 seems the best fit for purpose. Still lurking, although moved to the dark side: disco5.co.uk

The D4 may also detect this and [for safety reasons] not automatically shift up beyond 3rd gear.
...... always on the road less travelled 🚧
