D3 repair-exchange tailgate lock

In the end, the moment came for me to start repairing the infamous locks. I found the solution in a simple central locking motor. They are in use from the time of Golf 2, maybe even early. They are fairly reliable and versatile. As soon as I had D2, I used two for locking and unlocking CDL (middle differential lock)
So, the reason for the replacement was, that when the sun was bleeding and overheating the tailgate door, the lock died. It was simply powerless and the latch was not working. I read about the same symptoms on forums. Well, because I could not wait for the actuator, I took the problem into my hands. Going to the dealer with this kind of components, paied 10 euros for central locking motor, took 1.5 hours of time and solved the problem. It works perfectly, if something changes, I'll write Wink

Here is how it was done:

1. Remove the plastic end from the top. From the forehead, 4x screws are hidden under plastic caps.

2.Carefully pull out and remove.

3.Remove and pull out the lock, which is under foam dust protection. Unfortunately, it needs to be removed by force or cut.

4.The actuator and the new motor-actuator look like this.

7.The motor is mounted, the openings wire are attached, and the additional wire is also attached for emergency opening. I used wire for bicycle brake.

8.I did not remove the original connector from the car's line, I cut it from the old and put it to the new motor.

9.Soldered original connector

10.Tested if it work and returned all parts to the original position. Here you see the end of the safety wire "just in case".

And here video how it work:

Nice fix and cheaper than the LR replacement. Certainly sounds like there's plenty of power in it! Thumbs Up

Good job, i was thinking of using a D1 interior lever to fit into the trim for when the solenoid dies.
