Best Halogen headlight bulb given brightness/longevity/cost?

I need to replace my Halogen headlight bulbs, but with what?

I replaced them earlier in the year but one has just blown meaning the even older unblown one is now back in!

I watched a Wheeler Dealers episode some time ago which essentially showed the brightest and most robust bulb was a quartz glass bulb. Is this true and in any case is there consensus on a good replacement? I should probably buy spares this time...

Thanks

The std H7 is what you want if you truly want them to last, any and I mean any of the fancy ones dont seem to last at all, yes nice light output, but like anything asked to do more than it were originally designed for will end up spitting its dummy out.

I could be wrong here but think all halogen bulbs are tough glass possibly quartz, you have to bare in mine Mr China is a bit of a knob.

Had Phillips higher output for good few years in the D3 with not one blown. Got them in the high beam slot of the D4 but not sure it makes much difference as the highbeams just sends the extra lights up into the trees. Rolling Eyes

I have had Nightbreaker Unlimited and Philips Xtreme bulbs and never suffered any early failures.
It would be worth mentioning how important it is to never touch the glass with your fingers (so new gloves or a piece of clean cloth for handling) as fingers leave oils on the glass which during use create heat spots on the bulb....

Bulbs are a consumable item and will not last forever.

Hi All

Bulbs are very much a consumable item, many factors determine the life of a bulb, pot holes, moisture, bonnet closures, loose fitting, vibration and poor wiring can all have a negative effect on the filament, even living close to rail tracks is thought to be a failure factor.

I am inclined to agree that bulbs that run hotter also reduce life expectancy so if your wanting a brighter light there is a price to pay.

We have included Lucas standard bulbs on our website alongside OSRAM which tbf are at the forefront of bulb technology and are probably the best you can get.

Links Below for both brands:-

Ring LED Bulbs

Hi All

It is worth noting that on LED Upgraded bulbs, Ring Automotive Warranty their bulbs for 5 years if you register your purchase with them or 1 year if you don't, you send them your old bulb and they send you a new one Thumbs Up you will need your original invoice of sale from us or whoever you purchased them from to do this, but it's a decent guarantee
