Ive not had the D3 long and my first fill was to the top and I had a little overflow from somewhere in the wheel arch then last week I had a fuel patch at work on the hottest day so the inner wheel arch came off today to investigate.
I found a 1/4" tube not connected at either end and I guess it links a vent pipe to the drain hole under the flap but I can not see that this has caused the problem - am I missing something?
The only other thing is the steel filler pipe is not anchored at the bracket

Try sifting through some body off photos to find which pipes are not connected. I found this

Looks to be breather
With this disconnected and the filler not connected it means this car has not been professionally maintained. A bodge job. You should take a good look over the car to check what else is wrong ... Or get a pro to look over it. As a minimum read the posts on cam belt tensioner and make sure your car has the up rated tensioner and is timed properly.
