Left hand driveshaft removal
Hi All,
Hope you're all enjoying the sun.
Firstly I'd just like to say a big thanks to all the knowledgeable folk who have posted technical guidance and advice, I've found it all a great help! With that guidance, I've reconditioned the air suspension pump, changed wheel bearings, blanked egr's, changed fuel filters etc as well as all the run of the mill maintenance stuff.
Apologies if this has been covered in great detail already.
I'm planning on removing my knackered driveshaft and fitting new. Although I've never removed a driveshaft before, all the directions i've read seem reasonably straight forward and within my limited capability . . . . . except i'm unsure about the actual removal of the shaft from the diff .
I've read two things:
1). 'Pull the driveshaft hard and you should feel / hear a click as it disengages from the diff'.
2). Haynes manual suggests inserting a large screwdriver / lever between the diff casing and inner joint housing, prising the shaft from place.
Question 1: Which is the preferred way to remove and is there anything I need to be aware of before I butcher something in ignorance?
Question 2: Fitting replacement driveshaft into diff - is it simply a case of lining it up and pushing back into place?
Many thanks in advance!

answer 1: try and use a soft metal drift and hammer on the underside of the drive shaft near the diff I found to be the best way.
answer 2 : make sure you replace the curlip on drive shaft with new one and then guide it back in gently and then tap home using copper hammer.

Thanks for your advice Oiley. Completed it this morning - took two hours, most of that was trying to get the tail end of the driveshaft out of the diff - it all fell apart when I pulled

I have got the pleasure of this job tomorrow morning but only for a split cv boot. Am going down the route of leaving the inner part of the shaft in place and just removing the joint after removing the large clip from the inner gaiter. I must be mad but am really looking forward to doing it 👍😎2006 TdV6 HSE.

Good luck, hope all goes without a hitch. I did try to upload a couple of pictures on my last post - I failed 😄

Thank you but was a non starter. This is how far I got
Seem to have a slightly bigger nut on each wheel and could only loosen two on the front left. No locking wheels nuts are fitted. 😡😡2006 TdV6 HSE.

Spent nearly 3 hours getting the caps off the wheel nuts then when all apart my bush splitter snapped trying to get the upper ball joint out of the arm and crushed the bottom two lines of thread on the ball joint thread! Had to cut the bad thread off and put it all back together for another day 😡2006 TdV6 HSE.

your not that far from me i'm near cliffe if you need any help I could possibly you out as long as i'm not working.
Put some wd40 on the hub nuts, then there will be less problems.
Try to get a feeling for how much 140Nm is, then You don't have to kill the tool.TDV6MY07-automatic-LHD-noDPF-iidbt-ffrrMod

I have ordered a new ball joint tool but gone for a c cup type one rather than a pivoted one this time. Also I did douse everything with some screw loosener I get from work. It is pretty awesome stuff. Plus have ordered 20 new wheels nuts but not the caped type just one piece and a new extending wheel brace bar.2006 TdV6 HSE.
