Hopefully someone can help me improve the D3 with cold starts. Thought I'd post here as I can see many a fruitless trip to the stealer, and just maybe there's a simple solution, so here goes...
Cold week (never above zero)
FIRST SCENARIO:
Key in ignition, turn to position III and go joy. 2nd attempt and sometimes it works, but usually at 3rd,4th or 5th attempt. This is always followed by a large plume of black (diesel) smoke from the back (un-burnt fuel ?)
SECOND SCENARIO:
Key in ignition, turn to position III and no joy (motor turns but doesn't start) , 2nd attempt and starter motor will not turn at all !! 3rd,4th attempts are the same. Lock the doors, unlock the doors, turn to position III and starter motor turns and it USUALLY starts.
The 2nd scenario is the most common 75/25 in it's favour.
This only happens on cold starts and NEVER on warm starts.
Any suggestions appreciated Mrs Jones ? We've come for your Liver

Gee Mr Tracy,
I reckon it's your fuel cut-off or pump solenoid failing
