I currently have the same problem - on mine there is a small steel lever tack-welded to a shaft in the seat base which has snapped. I had to fold down the seat and now cant open it again!

Looks like I will have to remove the seat from car to fix it.

Refreshing this 4 yr old post. I have the same problem. LH boot seat will not launch when pulling the handle and stucked in folded position. Anyone who know to solve this without separating the body from chassis? Mad

It's just a handle there, no cords to release the back of the seat.

Solved Thumbs Up
A small bolt attaching the lever to the main seat frame has unwinded and fallen off.
Tight access using needle-nose pliers from the opposite side to release the seat back.
