Anyone on here know about updating the maps without spending a fortune at the dealers?
My D4 2010 has got the system which needs to be taken to a dealer for an update, but that seems very expensive. The new M74 extension doesn't show up on mine (although the dots to show where the extension will be are shown).
This might be a stretch as well, but the display on my wife's Evoque is much nicer - is it possible to fit something like that into the D4?
I really like having everything integrated and no wires trailing all over the place, and that's my bottom line, but if there was a (cheap) way of getting a better display and SatNav, I'd certainly consider it.
If the Navteq one is now obsolete, what are the options for a replacement which replaces the screen so that I don't have wires etc? and still gives the sound/phone integration that I have just now?

Maps can only be updated by dealers as far as I know, I guess there is no other option as it is HDD based. Don't think you can change the display, I would like the 2012> software but apparently it's not possible. 2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

Dealer only really, I also have a MY10 and looked into it. Made my peace now as I'm not prepared to spend the £.

Thanks for this. The pleasure of the integrated aesthetics wins over a more modern map etc. Happy top live with it if it's as good as it gets.

Mine are done free of dealer time charge - I only pay for the actual map update fee, because I always get it done when the rest of the vehicle is being serviced (in Northern Ireland.) 2016 Discovery 4 Commercial

Just had my D4 (Oct 2009) VN HDD satnav updated by LR dealer in Tarbes (France) along with super major belts service . Checked map reference in map change menu and found WEU:V20140501. The previous one was V20090501, presumably the original map. Does that mean I paid €140 for a 3 year old map ? Just checked a road that completed about 2.5 years ago, the map doesn't know it!
Anyone know if there is a later map?
Thanks

I'm sure I recall reading that the 2010 D4 satnav will only update to a certain date and no further. Which probably isn't of much use, but if you've managed to update it to 2014, then well done, but for the price, maybe not so well done. You'd think that as it doesn't actually bring it up to date, the price should reflect that. But we are talking about Land Rover...

Hi Pedros and Firthy77, thanks for your replies
I have found more roads that haven't been updated. I called Hear Maps (used to be Navteq) to ask them if v20140501 was the latest version. They confirmed, after a very confused discussion - not sure if the person actually understood totally what I meant - that it is the latest version for the HDD nav. When I suggested that it would be out of date, they said that there were frequent minor updates - I am not so sure... but could be true. The latest updates should have been included. I don't believe that is the case.
Commeres LR in Tarbes charged me €140. Hear confirmed that they would have downloaded the SW around May 2014. If that is the case, I feel liberally robbed, and that for loyalty to genuine LR servicing?
I will be back there on Friday as they forgot to fit the grey bit of trim on the lower part of wheel rch extension fitted at the same time - scraped it last year

Yes I think HERE maps are just a distributor for LR.
I ordered the latest for MY13 D4 after confirming that my version was almost 4 years old, despite the dealer telling me it was the latest version. So going from 2012 to 2016. Waited for my email to come through telling me they had dispatched it!!!
After 3 phone calls I found out not only were they in the Netherlands but that they had none in as they were waiting for stock from Land Rover?
Also they wouldn't have any until late February.

Trust me????.... pet hate, confusing hear with here! almost as bad as in appropriate use of apostrophes I remember seeing it on the screen and just typed what I vaguely remembered.
Worked out they are in NL. I'm a clog myself, but left when I was 3. Still speak the lingo, but after 40 years in UK and now in France, guess I dont really qualify. The lady I spoke with spoke French, but not that well. Asked if she spoke English - no, Dutch? No. So on in French (yes I do speak it 8) ) but still not convinced she really understood the issue.
When at the dealer next Friday, I will challenge them and try and get a refund. They should at least have told me it was 3 years OOD. I could have kept the 2009 version that I have lived with for several years now. I only use GPS for those finding a road in a city events. Age makes keeps you relying on good old fashioned maps
