Gear Oil and Sump...........why?
Just been looking back through my D3 receipts and I found the most recent one a month before my ownership to be for supply and fit gear oil and sump from The Transmission Workshop in Bristol.
Now for what reason do you think this was done?

Sump, engine sump? They can become porous and leak, had mine changed a while ago due to leaking.
If gearbox sump may do the same.

I was presuming it was the transmission sump and was confused why they didn't use a sump with replaceable filter! But engine sump would make more sense........£190 inc vat!
I've never heard of them being an issue before so thanks for enlightening me

The sump was probably replaced to change the gearbox oil filter. Ours are a plastic sump which contains the filter. You can replace the gearbox sump with the metal sump normally fitted to the same box in the BMW X5 which means you can just replace the filter in the future.D4 2016 Landmark, Waitomo Grey.

Defender 2002 Td5 Commercial, had a hard life but slowly being restored.
I only work so I can afford to repair my Land Rovers!
And it's almost impossible to fit the plastic sump back on with the box in the car due to the crossmember.Mark.

Can be done I know, but a lot of effort when the metal sump is an easy fit.Mark.
