Slow high beam headlights
Hi,
I flashed my high beam at someone last night (to say thanks for letting me past) and the reaction time of the lights was very slow. It took a second or more for the high beam to come on. I was almost past the poor chap before the flash happened.
Is that correct or do you think the bulbs need swapping out? If they do - are there any that are recommended?
Thanks in advance.

If you could fill out your profile with vehicle info, we could tell if you had halogen or xenon headlamps
Xenons have a flap that fully exposes the bulb for main beam, and it can get sticky.

The high beams should come on instantly, whatever the shutters are doing. You need to look at the lights and determine what you have and what they are doing.

Doubt your issue is anything to do with the bulbs - they normally just work or blow. Do they gradually light up or is it just an outright delay? Can you measure the voltage reaching them?
(PS: Good quality but standard bulbs are best unless you are really concerned with aesthetics. LEDs are not suitable for retro-fitting as they cannot fit the focal point correctly.)Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

I'm betting there is a relay between the instrument stalk and the headlight? It is not uncommon for them to slow with age (especially if the flywheel diode is/has failed).
Not something I have but a schematic of that circuit would be helpful - i'd be surprised if someone here can't help you with that? Anyone?

Not quite so simple, unfortunately - it's FETs controlled by the BCM that do the job.
