Recommendation for turbo change in Bucks?

Hi Guys,

I need a new turbo on the D3. Have any of the forum members in and around HIgh Wycombe/Bucks had this job done and can they recommend anywhere for the job.

So far i'm quoted 3 days labour and a reman turbo is £490.

What experience have you had locally?

Call Martin at Alymer Motors and see what he says. He is in Potters bar so not a million miles away. Great guys but not sure if they will want to get involved with a refurb turbo. They like to use genuine LR stuff so they have come back. Either way they are good to get a quote from

Thanks, it's V&G quoting 3 days labour vs Disco_Mikey's 6 hours... I just wanted to try and widen the net a bit, I'm not confident going as far as Watlington at the moment - the car is that bad.

You could try Graham Goodyer in Coleshill, replaced the turbo on my Defender the other week (cost about £1000 all in for genuine parts).

I would be very careful about fitting a re-manufactured turbo.

The only company of which I have experience is Turbo Technics, who are excellent:-

http://www.turbotechnics.com

there are far to many companies offering very poor quality cheap re-manufactured turbos.
Other may well be able to recommend decent re-manufacturers. I would suggest you insist on a decent written, preferably under-written, warranty.

It may well be that Advanced Factors offer a decent re-manufactured turbo - I haven't checked.

What ever you do I would recommend you check that whoever does the work has built in the cost of replacing the turbo oil feed pipe.

Good luck & let us know how you get on.

There is also Lee Perry - I think they are called at Radnage somewhere, no experience of them, but would be worth a discussion to see what there view is?
Also a call to FW4x4 could help with nailing down the budget? Besides its down hill from bledlow! Thumbs Up

Thanks for your suggestions guys!

Lee Perry didn't want to know, they have work to December, V&G wanted 3 days labour to do it, they reckoned the last similar job they had done was £4500 for a TDV8. The garage the car is at want £720 labour inc VAT to do the turbo with body off and they have experience. The reman turbo comes from Universal Turbos, I got one for my Audi A6 a couple of years ago and stuck another 40k on without any issues.
In the last month the car has had LPFP, HPFP, front lower wishbones, front discs and pads, propshaft, compressor air dryer cover, new front valve block and I'm about to fit a new clutch, flywheel and rear brake pipes when the body comes off. I'm going for the reman turbo over a new one... there's £400 in it..

So, on the subject of reman turbos I have had one before from crturbos and it did 30k miles trouble free until I sold the car. They seem to have been bought by Universal Turbos who I don't know, anyhow, I took the plunge and the unit has arrived. taking it out of the box and peering through the cellophane bag it appears to have new Borg Warner ancillaries attached to it and it pretty much looks new. They claim to use original parts to remake the turbos back up so it should be as good as a new one.

The oil feed pipe - do they need replacing? I've ordered a drain pipe but the feed pipes are another £100 - small in the scheme of things but do they need replacing?

I've already got clutch, DMF, rear brake pipes and oil pump on the list as well as the turbo... ouch and that's on top of the LPFP, HPFP and lower front wishbones in the past month.... Big Cry Big Cry

I would have had it off to DM but realistically the cost of transport was too great and I didn't have the brass neck to blag it off my recovery company.
