Remappers - what's the difference?
So I've been making inquiries about getting my D3 remapped.
So you can find someone who'll do it for £200, there's guys recomended on here who are more than that, other indy Landy garages I can't find any reference to on here etc etc etc.
So, for £200 do I get half as good a remap as a £400 map?
Is a remap, a remap, or are there good ones and bad ones?

There is a definite difference between a generic cheap remap and one that's been developed on real cars and takes your specific vehicles parameters into account.
I've removed many generic cheap remaps and replaced with the BAS remaps. Resulting in less smoke, smoother acceleration through the range and often improved economy (depending on how you drive of course).
These tdv6 engines are quite particular and just increasing the fuel injection pressures and removing the boost limits, really does the engines no favours at all! Sure it will give you more power than standard, but delivery tends to be all or nothing as opposed to the measured increases to ensure that your normally serviced vehicle continues to provide many many years of continued happy reliable service.
With of course a noticeable increase in torque. Bodsys Brake Bible

thank you. That helps me decide whether to invest the minimum or a chunk more Previous: Defender 90, Disco 1 300TDi, 1976 Pontiac Trans-am 6.6 auto, 1975 Ford Gran Torino (S&H), 83 Trans-am (KITT), 83 Chevy G20 (A-Team van), 1972 RR Silver Shadow, 94 Camaro, 2001 Ford Crown Vic P71 "Sheriff" car, Ford F150 XLT Supercrew pickup and other assorted rust.....(Beetles, Minis, Scooby etc)

I had been debating for years about a remap, a cheap one can be a disaster waiting to happen, even Disco_mikey got caught out, good ones seem a lot of money for what is theoretically just a software file, although a lot of expertise, time, thought and testing has to go into producing it.
However Bodsy came into the equation and waved his magic Diagnostic tool at the D3 and up rose a D3 with D4 performance magic, incredible, quieter, smoother, more economic, phenomenal words can't discribe the improvement a few minutes can make, beg, borrow, sell the cat, dog wife and get a good remap put on, you just will not regret it It can when others can't,

so that begs the question, can I put the cat and wife in the for sale section? Probably not, but you can put a wanted add in for a de-cat with SWMBO permission if you really want to compete with a D4 and beat it with the awesome low rev sound and power. It can when others can't,

Bodsy put a bas map on mine on Monday and it's a different animal. Smoother, more responsive, loads of torque and still no smoke! 8)
On the de cat note. If I decat and leave the back boxes will I get a slightly increased sound from the exhaust? I'm after a little bit more turbo spool up sound and a bit of a growl on full chat but to still be a bit discreet on the grouse moor!
Sorry to hijack!!

Yes! Sounds beautiful upto about 1200 rpm, very V6ish not obtrusive some passengers would not notice (SWMBO) but to the discerning ear , over 1200RPM can't tell any difference inside apart from the extra umph.
One thing I failed to mention with the remap is decreased fuel consumption, before 22/23mpg, after 27/28 I put this down to the fact the car having much more torque is nearly always in a gear higher, this not only makes it more economical but much quieter, even SWMBO noticed this.It can when others can't,
